Thoughts and observations I experienced while listening to this list:
- Call Me Maybe is one of those songs I don’t really want to like, but I just can’t help myself. Darn catchy tune, and obviously, I’ve purchased it, so I must like it.
- No matter how “cheesy” people think The Carpenters music is, I think it’s hard to deny that Karen had a phenomenal voice. I’m not embarrassed to say that I own the two-CD greatest hits collection. With that said, Calling Occupants… is one of my least, if not the least favorite of mine. In particular, that prolonged mess for too long at the beginning of the song is most annoying.
- The Cowboy In Me, and any Tim McGraw song for that matter, usually takes me back to when I saw him in concert in June of 2004. The man is hugely sexual, and I’m not the only who feels that way, judging by the reaction by the crowd (okay, by the women and gay men) whenever his ass moved or he put his hands anywhere near his belt or crotch.
- Of course I’ve heard of Patsy Cline’s Crazy, but I was surprised to see a song of hers named Crazy Arms follow right after it.
- Dwight Yoakam’s Crazy Little Thing always reminds me of line-dancing, because we do a dance to that song, which is the only reason I own it.
- That Cry Me A River Dinah Washington song made me laugh out loud when it started, because it reminded me of David Sedaris’ singing Away in the Manger in the voice of Billie Holliday during the course of his Santaland Diaries. If you’ve never heard the Santaland Diaries, you owe it to yourself to listen to this 8-minute clip that includes what I’m talking about. If you only want to hear the way he sings that song, slide forward to 5:30 into the recording.
- I skipped a lot of songs that begin with a C, which were pretty much all in the classical genre. There were 68 cantatas and concertos alone.
