~Friday~ I like Jane Austen novels, in general, so when the movie, Austenland, finally made it to the $2.00 movie theater, I went to check it out.
It wasn’t without some skepticism that I went, however, as this was not a movie of one of Jane Austen’s books, but one about a resort-type place where people who love Jane Austen and/or her work, can go and have an “experience.” From the trailer, it seemed like it had ample opportunity to be cheesy.
Here is a synopsis:
Jane Hayes (Russell) is a single 30-something American woman obsessed with Colin Firth’s portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice who wishes for a nice Englishman of her own. After yet another failed relationship, Jane decides to blow her savings on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to a Jane Austen–themed resort in England.
The official trailer:
My thoughts about this movie are limited:
- It stayed just this side of cheesy.
- A couple of hot men in it helped.
- I’m glad it was only $2.00.
- Regretfully, but not surprisingly, it had a Hollywood ending.
Have you seen this movie? Or wouldn’t you be caught dead watching this movie?
