I had a good day today. I finished a month-long outstanding action item in time for my 1:00 meeting, which was well attended by the 2nd lines, with BT, Mark, and Helen on the call.
I called the girl who hit my car on Saturday at Artsplosure.
“Hi. This is John Martin. You hit my car at Artsplosure on Saturday.”
“Uhm, which one? I hit a couple of cars on the way out.”
No she dih-ent. That cracked me up. Turns out it was her work vehicle, so if it does have to go through the insurance company, which I doubt, at least the company will be paying for it. I believe I’d cross her off the list of employees eligible to drive the company van if I were the boss.
On the way out, I stopped over in B500 and met with Gregor for some coffee. We had a great chat… every time I see him I think, “We mustn’t let so much time go by before we do again.” I gave him his two books back, P-Town, and the John Edwards’ book. I’d had the P-Town book so long, he’d forgotten about it.
Instead of heading downtown to one of the body shops, I stopped by Carmax on the way home, at Gregor’s suggestion, to see if they could give me an estimate on my car damage. Unfortunately, they don’t do any body work at all there. One of the guys there, though, recommended “Peaches” on Capital Blvd. Peaches sounds like a lame name for a body shop, and I hate that it’s way over on Capital, but that’s the breaks. I’ve got to pick up the shattered pieces of my life and move on. No whine with that cheese, please. I’ll try to give them a call tomorrow. “Peaches? Is Herb there?”
I decided to check out a movie for the evening, and after discounting anything playing at the Blueridge 14, I settled on Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, playing at 7:30 at Madstone. It was a very intriguing movie. There were two other people, a couple, in the theater with me. I’m glad I saw it. I generally do not like Jim Carrey movies, and certainly never find him attractive. But I did in this movie. Must have been that stubble thing going on most of the movie.
Movie Synopsis: Joel (Jim Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his memory. But as Joel’s memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it’s clear that Joel just can’t get her out of his head.
