This Tickles Me

My friend Michael, from London, sent me this joke today.

Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 0800. The next day at 0845 there is a knock at the Personnel Manager’s door.

The Foreman from the assembly line throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee. He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule. The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself so the two men march down to the factory floor.

When they arrive the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo’s all over the factory floor and they’re really beginning to pile up. At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo’s.

She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles. The two men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo’s legs.

The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter. After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena. “I’m sorry,” he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, “but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday… your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.”

My “box-o-food” arrived today. There is an extra week of food in it, some of things I don’t like. I didn’t get a choice of those items — I got the “Popular Pack” or some such nonsense like that. That is, a week’s worth of food that is the favorite of everyone else on the program. Oh well. I like most of it.

The second part of my Amazon order arrived today, too. My last book that I need for classes this semester was in it, and the other CD for Robert. It was a UPS kind of day. And, yes, the UPS man was “hot.” 🙂

Joe came over a little after 3:00, and we went riding. After pumping up our tires, we headed out on one of the city bike routes near my house — 5 miles, we did it twice. We were surprised to run into a little bit of a headwind on such a nice day on that street that runs parallel to Hillsborough Street. Before he left, we agreed to attend an information session on Sunday, February 6, about a “century ride” (100 miles) that’s happening in Lake Tahoe in June. Hmmm. Might I end up there twice in one year after never having been before?

Class was interesting enough tonight. It was over 15 minutes early, as not many people participated in the discussion after Dr. Dicks’ lecture. I think a lot of people still don’t have the book(s) yet, so hadn’t read. I related my story about thinking about “mental mapping” and “conceptual models” with regards to the toilet in my hotel room in Charlotte this weekend.

At home I created .jpg files of the covers of some CDs, which I’m going to use in a subsequent blog entry.

Dancing was fun tonight. The posse was there, and brought his new boyfriend, Anthony, to “check out the scene.” He evidently had taught him a couple of dances at home, as he did two or three of them with us. For the lesson, Carl taught “Midnight Waltz.” The tempo was very screwed up once the music was put on when they were ready to try it with music. From way too slow to way too fast. Oh well.

I had both a two-step and a waltz with Walter, neither of which were very good. Not by any fault of either of us; neither song was at a good tempo.

Robert stopped at the McDonald’s drive through on the way home, and got us each a $.99 chicken sandwich — a “McChicken,” I suppose. The last hurrah before starting the diet tomorrow. That makes no sense, but people do it all the time.
