Good people, good times…

I removed five names from the required reviewers list of several QMX documents for Trevor. I wrote up some audit prep tips for Woody and his test lead in preparation for their ISO audit, which starts tomorrow afternoon. Woody’s good people.

Our EAGLE monthly luncheon today consisted of connecting into a Webinar, which was, for most of our group, “preaching to the choir.” It was good for the new people, but those of us who have been around for a while, and have been intimately involved with EAGLE and GLBT/Diversity Eduction in IBM for many years could probably have given the presentation. Attendees besides myself: Jennette, Ken, Jon, Falz, Stan, and Eric.

I would prefer to “socialize” at our monthly EAGLE luncheons rather than “learn.”

I met Will, his girlfriend Amy, Amelia, Tanya, E-Ching, and her fiancee, David at

for dinner and drinks at 7:00. I got there just after 7, and was the first one there.

I’m not sure why this place is always so crowded, mostly with young college boys, but I think it might have something to do with their mostly one-dimensional wait staff:

Everyone at our table got carded but me, but I’m not bitter. After all, I’m betting everyone else is 30 or under, and I am 47. Also, no one else has gray hair. Things that make you go “hmmmm.”

We had fun conversation, and after a while, played four or five rounds of trivia with everyone in the bar. Since all of us present who are in the Tech Comm MS program at State are also now working at IBM, we chose the team name of, “We B M.”

Unfortunately, as bright a Tech Comm group as we are, in choosing our name, we failed to consider one of the three important “rhetorical elements”: context. (The other two are audience and purpose.)

So, later when the emcee was reading off the team names to announce the scores he, of course, didn’t get the allusion to IBM, and intimated something about BM possibly standing for bowel movement. But he digressed.

The trivia game was pretty fun, and let me see if I can remember the round categories:

Round 1: General Knowledge
Round 2: Sports
Round 3: State Capitols
Round 4: Words/Phrases/Famous Things From Movies
Round 5: Top 10 Songs Downloaded from iTunes This Week

In between the trivia rounds, other varieties of inanity took place:

  1. A (one mug-full of) beer chugging contest.
  2. A joke-telling contest, which included:
    • What do you call a prostitute standing on a corner with her hand up her skirt? Self-employed.
    • What did the snail say, while riding on the turtle’s back? “Weeeeee!”
    • What do the women in Raleigh put behind their ears to attract men? Their legs.
    • When the East-Ender was asked why his girlfriend was holding a steering wheel under his penis, he replied, “She’s driving me nuts!” (This is not verbatim, but it’s the gist.)

I met Joe for coffee at Helios, where I also booted up my laptop to AIM innoman, and uploaded my journal entry that I had written on my laptop last night.

We got to Flex between 10 and 10:30. The pool table on the stage was pushed back against the wall, it was on the dark side up there, and a big piece of plywood was covering the serving windows between that area and the bar. Karaoke was going strong.

As it turned out some band was supposed to play at 11:00 or 11:30, but they never showed up. Eventually, they opened that area back up, including the pool table.

In the bathroom, on the bulletin board above the toilet in the stall, I noticed an announcement for: “Wednesday, July 7, Eric Himan” (Warning: This website is a classic example of horrible web design. Three-fourths of the screen real estate is his picture. The other fourth displays the content of whatever topic you choose, so you can read only about four lines at a time, and have to continuously scroll. Tired. Poorly done.) But I digress.

So back to the performance date. Okay, so this is on a Wednesday night at Flex. After line dancing. Now I don’t know what Brigner’s thinking, but usually by 11:00, 11:30 on Wednesday, the dancers are starting to leave, and the place is pretty empty.

Joe and I left somewhat after midnight, and stopped for Chinese on the way home. I got Sesame Chicken, ate half of it, and boxed the rest.
