I slept in this morning. Yay!
I did a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood — the Kaplan – Merwin – Merrie – Octavia – Gorman – Kaplan loop.
While walking, I called mom for Mother’s Day, and managed to catch her before heading out to bingo.
I asked her if they’d eaten out today, and she replied, “Oh yes, we went to Golden Corral for lunch. Oh my, they had all kinds of food there today, including a standing roast.”
I asked, “Well, did you ask it to pull up a chair and sit down?” Ba-dump bump. [Click This Now] We’re here all week folks.
I met Joe at the Olive Garden at Crossroads, where we had a 20-minute wait due to it being Mother’s Day, which we hadn’t considered. It was a fine wait, though, as we watched all the “daddies” with the mothers.
Once seated, we played the “make up a family story” game about a table across from ours, which had an older woman and older men sitting at the “head” (and I guess, tail) of the table — the farthest apart you can be from each other as it was a long table. On the one long side, from left to right, was a guy, a guy (who looked like the first guy’s brother), a woman (who could have been either of the two guys’ sister or wife). On the other long side, was a woman (who also could have been a sister or wife of the two brothers, a sister to the wife of one of the brothers). She had a little girl sitting to her left (who could have been her daughter, or her niece), followed to the left by an empty seat.
Joe and I decided that the guy in the middle on the long side was married to the woman to his left, and that the daughter was theirs — mostly because he was hot and making him a “daddy” made him even hotter.
That game got us through the salad and bread sticks. I had the:
Toward the end of our dinner, an incredible storm blew through, bringing with it mothball size hail for about ten minutes.
Just as it was starting, our waitress came to our table, which was by the window, looked outside, and said, “It’s hailing.”
“Sure as hail is,” I retorted. [See ba-dump bump and cymbal crash above.]
Joe was freaking out, as he’s been in a tornado before, and this definitely looked like tornado potential weather. He was particularly freaked out about the fact that the hail lasted for ten minutes.
After about 5 minutes, and every minute after that, he asked excitedly, “How long do you think it’s been hailing?”
I stopped by Flex at 8:00, hoping to catch the “early” Sunday crowd for a change, but only Rick E. was there. I had one drink and left.
I returned at around 11:00, where I found Brian (brianrdu). At a little after 11:30, Kevin (av8rdude), Joe, and Eric (innoman) arrived. Joey was sporting his new ‘do.
The evening was uneventful, and hardly any of the “good” singers were there.
