Meeting snafu, card bargains, at the “Helios Office” with Kevin, suspending dancing…

So, this week I’m working Tuesday and Wednesday (today) instead of Tuesday and Thursday (my normal schedule) to attend a mandatory class on Asset Security that is only offered today. Well, it was also offered last Tuesday, but I got notice of the meeting one hour before it was to start, and had editing I needed to finish that day, so couldn’t attend.

I worked from home this morning, and after showering and packing up my laptop, I realized that I didn’t have the room number for the meeting, and wouldn’t have time to stop by my office and fire up my laptop to find out. I thought it was being held in the cafeteria of our building, but I wasn’t positive.

As the anal retentive person that I am (Does anal retentive have a hyphen in it? Huh? Huh?), I fired up my laptop to check the meeting invitation on my calendar, where I found: 4D32/B501.

Well, there is a conference room with that number in our building, but the 501 part is the building number, and we’re in B510, not B501 — and there is a building 501, just across the street.

Even though I was 99% sure it was just a TRANSPOSITION ERROR is the unintentional exchange of two elements of an ordered list with all others staying the same. A transposition is therefore a permutation of two elements. For example, the swapping of 2 and 5 to take the list 123456 to 153426 is a transposition. In this example, if the newly ordered list of 153426 was unintentional, it would be commonly called a transposition error. In accounting, an error in copying a number from one place to another is a transposition error., I sent an instant message to the person who reserved the room, and I assume, was leading the session.

John: Susanne, your meeting invitation says “B501”; I assume you mean B510, correct?

Susanne: Yes, I did, but that meeting has been canceled.

John: It’s been canceled?

Susanne: Yes, the room holds 40 people, and 432 people signed up for the session.

I would have been so pissed off if I had driven in specifically for this meeting and found it canceled. It’s bad enough that I rearranged my work week for it. Pfffttt.

Since I was all dressed up, and ready to go out, I ran over to the Pleasant Valley Promenade on 70 to the Factory Card & Party Outlet, where I bought 7 cards for $5.29 — that averages out to $.75 a piece. I love that place.

Back at the house, I wrote out three cards, and then started working on my blog, when I got an email from Kevin.

I’m down at Helios, where the hell are you?

I zipped back a response email.

I’ll be there in 15 minutes.

I stopped by the post office at Avent Ferry road and mailed my three cards.

I made a note that the westbound (my return route) of Western Blvd. had one lane closed down and the traffic was backed up for a ways longer than I’d have patience to deal with.

I hung out at Helios with Kevin for a couple of hours.

While there, this headline popped up on the msn.com website:

Ancient female remains unearthed in heart of Rome.

My first thought was, “Well, my god, how long will you keep her that way?” The perils of a word existing both as a noun and a verb.

The following e-mail was sent out to our line-dancing distribution list:

Subject: Suspending Wednesday Night Dancing @ Flex…

For those of you who didn’t make it out to dancing tonight, those of us who did have decided to not dance next Wednesday, or again until the fan there is replaced. It was just excruciatingly hot tonight — to the point of being unfun. Even people other than myself were sweating and uncomfortable.

Regards,
John
