Breakfast and planning at Panera, cheap cards, and a festive night out…

I got up at 10:00, and checked in with Joe about meeting for breakfast at Panera Bread. He had been on the phone with his sister, Kathy, for about 45 minutes, and there didn’t seem to be any end in sight.

I told him just to call me back when he was done, and I SSSed. After still not hearing back from him after that, I just headed out to Panera. As I approached the place, I called to check in with him.

He was still on the phone. I told him that I’d be there, and to just come when he was done. When it was all said and done, and he finally arrived, the phone call ended up being three hours long. Talk about burning up some minutes on your cell phone plan.

I had used the time waiting for him having breakfast, and writing up my Friday blog entry. They were out of Asiago Cheese bagels, so I tried their French Toast bagel. With their Lite Honey Walnut Cream Cheese, it was out of this world.

We confirmed our plans to enter the Carolina Tarwheels’ Bikefest 2006, which is on August 12, and we went back and forth about signing up for the 31-mile option or the 62-mile option. In the end, we decided to commit to only 31 miles, knowing that on the day, if we want to, we can always do an extra “loop,” as that’s all it takes to do the 62-mile option.

Next, we talked about doing some training rides in general over the five remaining weekends (including this one), and we consulted my list of training ride routes from the Ride, and decided on a modified version of the Modified Jordan Lake route for tomorrow’s training. We pared it down from 34.3 miles to 26 miles.

Also while there, I installed Macromedia Studio MX (Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks), and used Fireworks to lighten up a couple of the pictures I took while visiting my aunt and uncle last month.

We left Panera Bread at about 4:30, and I drove over to the Factory Card & Party Outlet, where I bought 12 cards and a small bag of Orange Slices for $11.11.

On the way home, I stopped at the Hairy Peter, and bought a dozen cupcakes for Steven’s birthday, which we’ll acknowledge at dancing this evening.

Dancing was pretty festive tonight. And, lo and behold, what do I find when I arrive in the place? Two floor fans in the place. Can I get a gaymen on that? Praise the lawd.

We had a decent number of dancers show up, and we celebrated Steven’s birthday midway through the evening.

At around 11:00, the dancing stopped, and “Flashlight” night began. Little flashlights were given out at the door, and the lights were turned way down in the place.

I spent the beginning of that time chatting with Joe, and then most of the rest of the night sitting with zinnian and his friend Daniel.

Later in the evening, Joe and I went to CCs, where I spent the beginning of the time with Joe, until he met a guy named Kirk, and then I left them alone.

I sat on that big overstuffed chair by the piano lounge for most of the rest of the time there, with various people stopping by to say hello, and chat, now and again.

Joe and Kirk stopped by to say goodnight, and shortly after that I walked back to Flex, where my car was, and slept in it for about a half-hour, being in no condition to drive.

I put the driver’s seat all the way back, and after about a minute thought, “How ’bout I recline one of the back seats, crawl in with my head first going into the trunk (where it will be dark), and sleep that way?”

I got out, went around to the back seat, put the seat down on the passenger side, and thought, “No, that really isn’t going to work, as the seat doesn’t go totally flat and my head would be lower than the rest of my body, and with my legs sticking out, it might look, if someone walks by and looks in, like there’s a dead body in here, half-stuffed in the trunk.” Not a good look.

I returned to the reclined driver’s seat, and napped. My drive home, about 30 minutes later, was uneventful. Thank god.
