Working from home, the circle of life, Valentine’s and a record-breaking workout…

I worked from home today. Uneventful.

At about 10:00, I turned on my phone, and had two messages. One from Joe, and one from my cousin in Atlanta, asking me if I had the names of any of my uncle’s (her father’s) other kids or family—that she’d received a message from one of them that didn’t sound good, and upon calling her back, and her mother, couldn’t get anyone.

I called her back, left her a message, and then we connected. Turns out my uncle had triple by-pass surgery a couple of weeks ago, which went okay, but now he has contracted a staph infection, is back in the hospital, is having another surgery at noon today, and “it doesn’t look good.” She’s supposed to call me back (or e-mail me) with some kind of update before the day’s through.

A friend of mine with whom I was in grad school, and later got a job with IBM, and on this day whose baby shower I went to, had her baby today.

The circle of life. Sigh.

On the way to the gym, I called Jeanie-baby and when she answered I said, “Hi Jeanie-baby, I was just wondering if it would be at all possible for you to be my Valentine?”

She laughed and said, “Well only if you’ll be mine, John.”

She sounded great, and I found out that she had just moved back to Boca—back in with her daughter and son-in-law, which is where she was before going to the assisted living place in N. Augusta, SC.

“I just couldn’t adjust to that place, John,” she said.

She had told me that when I visited last month, and that she had planned to talk to her daughter about it as soon as her (her daughter’s) eye healed after some surgery. I’m glad to see that everything happened so quickly and that she is back “home.”

She also told me that she had connected with Milton’s grandson, and how wonderful a conversation they had with each other, and that warmed my heart, too, since I reconnected them.

Speaking of hearts:

There was no negative speak involved at the gym today. I went in with clear intentions to work for 60 straight minutes, and to work hard. The results surprised even me. Yay!

I had dinner at Applebee’s tonight, enjoying their Oriental Chicken Wrap, which I just love. I forced myself to eat only half of the order of fries that came with it, but I sure wanted all of them.

I napped a little, and then went out to Trailer Park Prize Night.

Rodney was in her Rodessa Roadhouse persona, and Mary K. Mart hosted. Yay!
