I met Joe at his place at about 11:40, and we drove over to a townhouse that he has his eye on buying. He’s looked at it once before, showed me the specs and a picture online, and asked me to go with him this time as he took a second look.
I liked it. It’s a one-floor, end unit. I’d buy it. Since his current apartment is pretty much just around the corner from our gym, I’d brought my stuff with me, and I stopped there afterwards. |
The weekends are all-cardio days for me, and I felt pretty good going into exercising today, starting off with my (5 sets by 15 reps) crunches. When I started set 5, I thought, “I’m going to go ahead and add another set of 15 reps today, since I’ve been wanting to increase them, and I’m into it today.” I ended up adding three more sets of 15. Cool.
I decided to only do 40 minutes of cardio instead of 60, since it’s a dance night, and I’ll get in at least 30 minutes of cardio doing that tonight.
Today’s workout statistics:

That was a pretty good paceāover 1200 calories per hour. Yay!
Afterwards, I stopped in the grocery store next door, and bought some potato salad, some macaroni salad, and some hot dogs and buns to grill out tonight.
At home, I straightened up a little, emptied the dishwasher, and started a load of whites.
Robert arrived at about 3:30, and we watched The Shipping News.
Movie Synopsis: An inksetter in New York, Quoyle returns to his family’s longtime home, a small fishing town in Newfoundland, with his young daughter, after a traumatizing experience with her mother, Petal, who sold her to an illegal adoption agency. Though Quoyle has had little success thus far in life, his shipping news column in the newspaper “The Gammy Bird” finds an audience, and his experiences in the town change his life. Then he meets the widow Wavey…
It’s a film about an insecure man who starts a life only to see it fall apart in front of him. As he attempts to rebuild his life he meets some interesting people and learns things about his past and his family’s past that he would not have been able to even imagine if nobody had told him. |
This movie didn’t get very good reviews overall, but Robert and I both really liked it. As usual, though, I was not thrilled with the Hollywood happily-ever-after ending.
One of the complaints of the book (in our book club, in which three out of the five us didn’t finish the book) was that it was kind of boring. Nothing really happened. Evidently, as I found out in the move movie, the real interesting stuff happened after where I stopped reading.
And writing that just now, it’s kind of ironic, because there is a theme in the story about being boring. Interesting; perhaps that ennui was built-in on purpose, which of course would make it brilliant, which of course could be why it was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
Robert fired up the grill, and I cooked the hot dogs and grilled the lightly buttered buns just before the dawgs were ready. We also had some shrimp cocktail with it. Yum!
We ate out on the deck, on my patio bar set, and then lay out on lounge chairs, all while listening to Brandi Carlisle (The Story), then Eva Cassidy (Songbird), and finally Reba (iPod > Music > Artist > Reba McEntire). Such glorious weather. Life is good.
Dancing was fun tonight. I got at least 30 minutes of cardio in doing it.
We stayed a little while afterwards. It was Bare Chest Night, and as will happen, most of the people who bared their chests shouldn’t have.
