Worked from home, China trip gearing up, exercising, and some karaoke…

I worked from home this morning, and from Helios this afternoon. I completed Shruti’s edit on schedule today.

I met Kevin (av8rdude) at the Bank of America (Kevin’s bank) at Cameron Village today to be a witness in the notarizing of a Power of Attorney of his.

He needed to run by the post office after that, and then by home to see if his laptop had arrived by mail from IBM. I took advantage of the time and place, by crossing the street to the Cameron Village library, which turned out to be a serendipitous stop.

When I asked the librarian where the books were on basic Chinese, she told me all about netLibrary, which I wasn’t familiar with, and which is described as follows: “Thousands of full text reference and scholarly ebooks and a selection of downloadable audiobooks. You must create an account before you can use netLibrary to check books out.”

Among the downloadable audiobooks are those that teach languages, one of which is Mandarin Chinese. Yay! You just download them to your computer, or to any MP3 player other than an iPod, and you can listen to them until their due date, at which time they become unavailable, unless of course, you renew them. Cool!

While I was there, I also checked out the paperback book:

With the trip now just a little more than four months away, things are starting to pick up in terms of the delegation getting to know each other and sharing information. Our delegation leader uploaded three files to our Yahoo group, which are from a delegation of the exact same type (Technical Communication), who did this exact same itinerary (Beijing, Shanghai, & Guilin), in 2003.

The first third or so of one of the articles is all about the food. Love that.

Kevin and I worked out from about 5:30 until 7:00 today. It was an all-cardio day for me. I mixed up my crunches routine today by doing 10 sets of 30 each instead of 20 sets of 15 each. It seems like a minor change, since I still did 300 of them, but going from doing 15 crunches at a time to 30 at a time definitely exercises the muscles differently in terms of endurance. Read: OUCH!

I met Kevin and Kurt at Flex for karaoke at 10:30. David was the host and it was as good as karaoke’s been in quite the while. Yay!
