I had pretty much a sleepless night last night. I never broke out into one of those ridiculous sweats at least, probably because I didn’t take aspirin before I went to bed.
The first thing I did was to take my temperature. My forehead didn’t feel that hot, and the reading confirmed progress: 100.2°. I went ahead and took two aspirin with my morning coffee. I’m quite sure a nap will be in my future today, and I’m committed to meeting Kevin (av8rdude) at the gym today at 3:45. I am so thankful to be off work today. |
After having a little breakfast, I went back to bed, and slept for about four hours. Yay.
Kevin (av8rdude) got a meeting cancellation today, so we were able to move our meeting time at the gym up to 2:50. I eased back into my routine with an upper body workout and some crunches. I passed on cardio, because (1) I’m still not at a 100% health-wise, and (2) I’m dancing tonight. I also cut down on the number of crunches, since it’s been a while since I’ve done any.

I guess that makes me the kind of guy that just can’t stop watching the kind of guy that just can’t stop playing with his crotch.</TMI>
After the gym, Kevin and I stepped over to the Sonic Drive-In, which, essentially, is in the parking lot of the gym, and we each had one of their Caramel Java Chillers, which were delicious. We had a coupon to get them for $.99 each instead of the regular $2.29 price.
We talked about him living with me, basically for the month of August, since his condo sale closes at the end of July, and he won’t leave for Seattle until late in August. I can’t imagine it being an issue. He and I, basically, are two peas in a pod.
I stopped at Target where I bought two batteries: one for the remote control to my Bose SoundDock and one for the backup to my beside electric clock. I was delighted to find the remote control battery, as it was one of those round disc types that I was sure I would end up having to go to a place like Batteries Plus to find.
My next stop was at Bed Bath & Beyond for another Sonicare Sonic Toothbrush with Sanitizer. Once again, I, of course, used a 20% off coupon, and when I go to my dentist next week, I will get another $15 rebate coupon to also apply toward it.
I took another nap before heading to dancing. I had the most incredible fantasy-type dream during that time. It was fantasy in the sense of the book and movie genre, not in any sexual fantasy kind of way. Incredible.
On the way to Flex, I checked in by phone with my aunt for three reasons: (1) to check up on Uncle Frank, (2) to see how her visit with Lisa (her daughter) went, and (3) to let her know I had finally completed that card and mailed it to her to bring into the rehab place to Uncle Frank. (I had told her about it when I was there.)
When she answered the phone, the first thing she said was, “Oh, you’ve heard?” as her voice quivered.
Oh no, I thought. “No, what has happened?” I asked with trepidation.
“John, Uncle Frank’s son has died. He was 51 years old. Had a heart attack. I just don’t know what to do. I’m afraid that if we tell him, it’ll kill him, literally. Or, as stubborn as he is he’ll say, ‘I don’t care, I’m going to the funeral.’ And he can’t possibly make that. He’ll die in the process of trying to do that.”
Awful. Awful. Awful. I don’t know how much more my aunt can take. It’s just overwhelming. My uncle is still not eating—he lost another pound this week, in spite of being on the feeding tube. Right now they are leaning toward not telling him for a while. My heart really aches for all of them up there.
Dancing was fun enough tonight. I was able to dance most dances in spite of not being 100% health-wise. I’m totally ambivalent about the fact that at 10:00 they stopped the dance music for 30 minutes and played the opening episode of Sordid Lives, the series, new on the Logo channel.
On the one hand, I think they could have taped it and showed it on another night (though perhaps that’s illegal), but on the other hand, I did enjoy seeing it. I’m wondering if it’s going to be an every week occurrence now. The good news is is that the commercials are so long, there’s actually enough time to dance a two-step during them, and Adam does turn the sound off the TV during them and plays a country song amenable to one. Rick and I actually two-stepped to one of them.
Dancers in attendance this evening included: Bill, Carl, Geromy, Michael (who left when they stopped the music to air Sordid Lives), Rick, and Patrick.
