One of my best friends in the world, Suzanne, sent an e-mail to the Mostly Social Book Club members pointing us to the latest adventure of her son, Christopher.
As part of one of the team member’s college documentary film class project, Suzanne’s son is one of three members, on one of three teams that are each starting at different corners of the United States and making their way to Lebanon, Kansas, right smack dab in the middle of America. Christopher is on the team departing from Lynn, Massachusetts. From their “Project Overview” page [Note: I have been generous enough—or bitchy enough, depending on your perspective—to correct grammar errors and typos.]: |
The Road to Lebanon is a documentary that will begin shooting July 28, 2008. The film will document the race of three teams of three who start at different locations equidistant from, and finish at, the geographic middle of America—Lebanon, Kansas.
Each team would begin their journey with $100 cash, a camera, and the goal of reaching Lebanon by any means available. This includes walking, biking, train-riding, hitch-hiking, or any other type of transportation available. While on the surface this documentary will be about the race itself, its premise will be exploring the idea of goodwill throughout America. |
The rest of the details of the documentary and trip are here.
I worked from home today. There is an interesting confluence of career-related happenings going on in my life right now. I’m going to blog about them in a separate, private (only to me) entry to have a record of them for posterity.
I mean seriously, would you quit drinking?
Bless their hearts.
I met Kevin at the gym after my last one-on-one meeting with my manager from Austin. The next one will be from Alaska. But I digress…
Today was an upper body workout day for me, after which I did crunches—and “back-into-the-routine” crunches at that, meaning getting back to 30-rep sets instead of 20-rep sets.
Kevin and I were both going to do 20 minutes of cardio, and I swear this is the most lame excuse to not do it that we’ve ever succumbed to: There weren’t two elliptical machines available side-by-side. In other words, we didn’t want to do it!

From the gym, I swung by Target to look at some high thread-count sheets, none of which I was happy with, so purchased three bags of Andes Mints for $7.00—on sale.
I checked in with my neighbor, Kathryn, by phone to see if she had a current Bed Bath & Beyond coupon before running over to the store while I was out at Crossroads. “I’m pretty sure it’s in Mark’s car. If he comes over tonight, I’ll look for it,” she assured me.
I decided to see what they had while I was there, and evidently, there is little-to-no expectation that anyone on the planet is going to put 500+ thread-count sheets on a full sized bed. They’re almost all in Queen and King sizes.
I did find a “Hotel Collection” made “especially for Bed Bath & Beyond,” which had 650 thread-count sheets in the full size, and for which I returned to the store to purchase after collecting the coupon from Kathryn.
This is a toufuckingché right here: I believe I’ve mentioned here before that my friend Joe bought me a new Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker for Christmas, and it’s been sitting in the box in my hallway, mostly because there’s nothing wrong with my current coffeemaker, except for the fact that it’s about 15 years old.
Well, I thought I’d break down and put the new one out, since it’s a good time with a house guest moving in for a month tomorrow. (Hence the new sheets for the guest bed, too.)
So, I open the lid to the box containing the coffeemaker, and lift it out. Guess where the pot is. In the spot where it goes—when you’re making coffee. As I have the coffeemaker slightly tilted it just slides right out of that spot and cracks into a million pieces on my kitchen floor. Brilliant packaging design.
I gave the guest room a good dusting, the most badly needing it spot being my desk area. The place looks fairly presentable. I have all of the dresser draws (five of them, I think) emptied out, too, so Kevin (av8rdude) can live out of that instead of a suitcase for the next few weeks.
Other things I’ve managed to get done today in preparation for his arrival is a good cleaning out of my toaster oven and my microwave. My range oven could use a good cleaning, but that ain’t happening tonight.
It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for us each to “tweet” the other on Twitter from different rooms in the house.
