Good week for… Bad week for…
Getting a ticket, after an Illinois man was stopped by police and fined $25 for failing to wear a seat belt. Half an hour later, Tim Ignasiak’s jeep was hit by a car that ran a red light; his seat belt saved him from serious injury. “I’m happily paying that ticket,” he said. Land shark attacks, after 14-year-old Sam Hawthorne of Britain sleepwalked into the jagged teeth of a souvenir shark jaw mounted on the wall of his family’s home. Hawthorne woke with a blood-curdling scream, and careened around the house with the open jaws stuck to his bleeding face. “It was like something out of a horror film,” said his mother.

You may remember, as discussed in this section of my April 29th entry, that for my dad’s birthday, I sent him a greeting card that said, “Happy 7th Birthday,” and everywhere in the card that it said “7,” I changed it to “77.”

Well, when I shared that with my sister, she thought that was just hysterical (okay, she’s easily amused, not unlike myself) and to that end, she sent me a card with this written in it, with the comic that follows also enclosed in the card.

Hello John,

OMG—this comic so made me think of you and your “card shopping!” ROTFLMAO!

Hope to see you soon my dear brother. I’m off to replace you in Boston on the 28th and return on the 31st. Hope your trip was a good one.

Take care,
Vivian

My aunt called today to thank me, on my uncle’s behalf, for that card I sent him. She said they took a walk (which is good news), and when they got to an area outside to sit and rest, she gave him the card. “It was just beautiful,” she said and continued, “After reading it, he just shook his head and said, ‘That’s John.’ It really was the perfect card, too, John, with the stone hearts on it.”

She also let me know that they had informed him about his son dying, and that he took it well—considering. They did tell him after the funeral was over. She thinks it might be a good thing, because Karen, his daughter (who has also lost her sister and brother now), said to him, “Dad, I can’t take another one. You’ve got to get better.”

The exterminator arrived at the tail end of the 9:00-1:00 promised time, which is unusual. I’m usually on the front end, and actually I prefer that. Today brought yet another serviceman, this one slightly hotter than the last one. He had a tattoo of a good-sized star on his arm, just above the elbow. Not that I was checking him out or anything.

As soon as he left, I headed to Helios to meet Kevin (av8rdude) for the afternoon.

I went to the gym from 4:00-5:00, where I just did lower body and crunches, since it’s a dance night for some cardio.

When I got home from the gym, Kevin had finally arrived, had been there for about five minutes, and was already connected to my wireless network. Yay!

I waffled all day about attending tonight’s Blogger Bash, hosted by the venerable @ginnyskal and @waynesutton, but did, in the end, go. And I’m glad I did. I had a really good time hanging out with the likes of @ktich, @mattrmiller, @abbyladybug, and meeting @ladyishmael.

The two-hour soirée started with a half hour or so of eating and socializing. The food, as I understood it, was provided by The Pit, and was most delicious. At just after 7:30, a new website for local bloggers, called 30Threads was announced by Ginny and Wayne. What a great idea. I hope it takes off. I’ve submitted my blog to be included in the “That’s Life” category.

A big shout out to Ginny and Wayne for making this happen!

Kevin (av8rdude) came to rescue me, as I had locked my keys in my car on the way into the bash. How fortuitous that he had just moved in with me, and had access to my house, in which my spare car key was. Yay!

Dancing was fun tonight. We had a decent number of dancers and a decent bar crowd. It would appear that the showing of the new weekly Sordid Lives TV show on Logo is bringing some folks in, which is good. The downside is that we stop dancing for 30 minutes of our two-hour time.
