I did a grocery run today, and it was cold enough outside that I didn’t worry about leaving what I bought in the car for about 15 minutes while I got my hair cut.
At home, I diced the onion I’d bought, and then I browned 1.25 pounds of ground turkey, and put .25 of it aside. To the pound left, I added Mongolian Beef seasoning, and some of the diced onions and stir-fried that up. When that was done, I stored it all in Tupperware in the fridge.
I browned another 1.25 pounds of ground turkey, and again, put .25 of it aside, in with the other .25 I had put aside, for a grand total of .5 lbs aside—just to complete the math.
I stored this browned pound, just the way it was (that is, without adding anything to it), in another Tupperware container. I’m going to use that to make some chow mien later this week. And to that end, I sliced up some celery, which will also go in the chow mien.
With the .5 ground turkey that I had put aside, I added to 8 oz. of cubed Velveeta cheese and a can of Rotel Tomatoes and Green Chilies, and melted that all together. While that cooked, I diced a tomato.
For dinner, for Robert and me, I layered a large salad bowl with Tostito restaurant-style tortilla chips with shredded lettuce, poured the hamburger and melted cheese mix on top of it and offered the following toppings on the table: the diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, diced onions, and sour cream.
With all that said, it was just alright. The last time I made the hamburger and Velveeta cheese melt mix, it was out of this world. Not so much today. Two things: 1) I think I might have used actual hamburger the last time, instead of ground turkey, and 2) I used the Velveeta made with 2% milk this time instead of the regular Velveeta.
Oh well. It wasn’t horrible, just not as good as I had anticipated.
Robert bought me the audio recording of David Sedaris‘ latest work, “When You Are Engulfed in Flames,” and we listened to about 1.5 hours of it. As always, David was an absolute hoot. I look forward to hearing the rest of it.
Dancing was fun enough tonight. I had a virtually pain-free back day today, which was wonderful, and I danced pretty much every dance and a few two-steps, one with Bill, two with Rick, and one with Robert, and a shadow-dance as well, with Robert.
I could feel my knee every now and then, but nothing horrible, and it felt good to dance again and get the exercise.
We stayed for a little while afterwards, as a guy named Bob was desperate for someone with whom to play pool and Robert suggested I play with him. I warned him that I wasn’t very good at it.
The first time two games were quite competitive, actually. We got all the way down to the eight-ball, and in the first game, I scratched to give him the win. In the second game he just shot at the eight-ball and made it.
On the third game, he was well ahead of me, with me still having three balls on the table while he shot for the eight ball—which he promptly scratched on giving me the game. Sweet.
At home, we listened to another hour of David Sedaris, and laughed some more, before hitting the sack.
