A couple of vids, an indoor hot day, and bill paying…

I had not heard that Jennifer Hudson sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl! Thanks to my friend Joe for pointing me to this vid. I want to be a fat, black woman with a phenomenal voice. I’m a third of the way there! 🙂

It was biting cold this morning, and the stinging chill stayed with us throughout the day. In complete defiance to that, mine and Rhonda’s office was over the top in terms of heat today. Ridiculous. It had to be close to 80°F in there.

I had the window open on my side of the office, which fortunately is right over the heater, and at one point Rhonda had to open her window to try and create a cross breeze, because it was still so damn hot in there. Did I mention ridiculous?

We had a “working” staff meeting today, which was an hour-and-a-half long. We went into it thinking we had nothing to really work on together, but ended up using the entire 90 minutes to prepare for our part in a meeting that Rhonda and Jude, my manager, are attending on Monday.

I caught the 6:00 city bus home, to find non-other than an absolute blast of heat when I got on the bus. I was reading some of Stiff, which I am absolutely loving. [Click image for more information about the book.]

But, it being so hot in there and after being hot all day, I just started nodding off while reading and riding.

I love three of these country divas and I love this song! Not sure when this was filmed, but it was at the height of Reba’s hair if not her career. 🙂

Here’s another version, at a different live concert, with the audio/video in sync, and the parts switched around a little. I love some of the harmonies in this one:

When I got home, I picked up where I left off on the bus—and took a two-and-a-half-hour nap.

At 10:30, I got up and devised this blog entry, and paid some bills:

  1. $2500 for my ROTH IRA investment for 2008, of which some will go to buying some shares in a stock named Diageo (DEO).
Diageo engages in producing, distilling, brewing, bottling, packaging, distributing, developing, and marketing spirits, beer, and wine. The company offers a range of premium brands comprising Smirnoff vodka, Johnnie Walker scotch whiskies, Captain Morgan rum, Baileys Original Irish Cream liqueur, JeB scotch whiskey, Tanqueray gin, and Guinness stout.

Its other spirit brands include Crown Royal Canadian whiskey, Buchanan’s De Luxe whiskey, Gordon’s gin and vodka, Windsor Premier whiskey, Bell’s Extra Special whiskey, Seagram’s whiskey, Old Parr whiskey, Bushmills Irish whiskey, Bundaberg rum Cacique rum, and Ketel One vodka.

One thing about people, even in a recession they’re going to drink—and perhaps even more.

  2. $600 for an annuity I’m invested in
  3. $414.09, toward the part of my knee surgery that wasn’t covered by my insurance

I also filled out a form to mail to the City of Raleigh to change the drafting of my water and sewer bill from my Coastal Federal Credit Union checking account to my State Employees Credit Union checking account.
