It’s been a while since and indexed blog entry has really struck me. Today’s did:
I’ve received this from a couple of different places now, so I imagine “it’s going around the Internet.” Aging celebs:

There. I feel better.
My morning was consumed with the bi-monthlyUniversity IT Committee meeting, for which I’m responsible for taking the minutes. Tedious.
Upon arrival in the Faculty Senate Chambers, the meeting’s venue, I found the door locked with a tag on it that said, “Room needs attention.” Evidently, housekeeping was supposed to set the room up for us, but upon getting the door unlocked, I found that it hadn’t. I had to move about 25 tables (with four chairs each) around into the U-shaped arrangement we use. Tedious and hot—and not in a good way.
We had a team meeting from 1:30 to 3:00, in which we recounted our department’s contribution to date this past fiscal year, which ends June 30th.
At just before 3:00, my manager gave me a ride to another building, since there is very limited campus bus service right now between the end of Spring session and the beginning of Summer Session I starting next week.
I met with an HR rep to talk to her about the pros and cons of using three tools—Google groups, a Web site, or a Ning— to accomplish something she’s trying to get done.
From there, I walked a couple of blocks to catch the city bus going inbound, getting off at the very next stop where I could catch it going inbound. I like working the bus system.
I took a seat across from three characters, two seating in the seat across the aisle and one row back from me, and the third in the seat behind them.
The two guys sitting together looked like each other’s brother from another mother. They were both older and one had an underbite, while the other one had an overbite. The guy with the underbite had only four teeth, all in the front, middle, bottom of his mouth. Bro with the overbite had three teeth, all in the front, middle, and upper. The guy behind them was much younger than them, had all his teeth, and reminded me of the Sesame Street song, “Which one of these things is not like the other?”
I came in on the middle of their conversation:
Unlike the others: “Oh, Harry doesn’t work there any more. He got fired for badmouthing the food.”
Lowers [incredulously]: “He got fired for what?”
Unlike: “For badmouthing the food. He badmouthed the food, though, not the chef.”
I wanted to know what food place they were talking about, but they never said it. Another snippet of conversation, which I once again missed the beginning of so don’t know what place they were talking about:
Uppers: “They’re just real skimpy on their chili there.”
Unlike: “Yeah, it’s good though. I can’t eat the chili on Snoopy’s hot dogs at all. I love their hot dogs, I just don’t like that chili.”
Casey joined us for dancing tonight and it was just a fun, fun night—at least for me it was. I had lots of two-steps with various partners, including Casey, Bill, Michael (new guy from bear411), and Scott (the guy who was at Flex last night, here for the Genealogy Convention).
Casey taught me to “Shuffle,” so another dance under my belt. 1-2, 1-2, 1-1.
We left at a little after 11:00. It sure is nice to have a designated driver with you all the time. 🙂
