A playah, John Martin r u there, nude sunning, a haircut, and a cry…

~Monday~  The lady sitting in the seat on the opposite side of the bus, and one row up from me had on a multi-colored dress—deep, dark colors of swirled images. She had on dangling earrings that resembled a tiny cluster of grapes, but with each “grape” exactly matching one of the colored swirls in her dress. Flawless.

Ivory plays ebony. This white guy sat in one of the front, middle-facing seats and worked two African-American girls within his view and earshot. I would estimate that every fourth or fifth sentence of his was, “Know what I’m sayin’?” Though as filler words and phrases go, I think I prefer that one to the Valley Girl “like” every other word. At any rate, the guy was definitely a play-ah.

I wanted to read this morning, as I’m feeling pressure to at least try and finish The Audacity of Hope before its due date on Friday, but instead I did one of the greatest things that using public transportation affords, and that was ride with my eyes closed almost the whole way to work. Obviously though, I wasn’t sleeping as I heard conversations the entire way. Like, ya know what I’m sayin’?

I was very intrigued by this item in today’s Google Alert report on my name, which runs once a day for me:

John Martin are you there mikelkpoet Open Salon

John Martin are you there? I wonder how many poor bastards out there think that a John Martin is going to come into their life

I followed that link, and it’s not clear to me who he’s alluding to. I like the writing, though, in spite of not at all being a fan of poetry.

Have you ever been to a nude beach? I’ve been to three: St. Tropez in the South of France, one on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, and Herring Cove in Provincetown, Massachusetts. News:Lite has released the World’s Top Five Nude Beaches Uncovered. I’m kind of surprised that St. Tropez is not on the list.

And then there was Independence Day Weekend 2008 at the nude campgroundBut I digress…

My friend Phil (of Phil and Joe) friended me on Facebook today, and found a link to my blog. After reading it he commented this affirmation: “Some of the most interesting stream of consciousness ramblings. I can almost hear you saying it……almost like talking to you in person.”

I also have an “Honesty Box” on Facebook, which is a place where people can anonymously tell you what they really think about you. I got an e-mail notification that someone had filled it out today, and in checking it found these three affirmations:

Thanks to all of you. You’re very kind.

I had a good day at work today, and managed to get to the bus stop and on the bus without any consequences from the super dark sky and thunderstorm and tornado warnings from the National Weather Center.

I left for the gym as soon as I got home, where I did 300 ab crunches (15 sets of 20 reps), followed by 30 minutes on the elliptical for a 578-calorie burn. Lots of nice eye candy there today.

After a quick dinner at home, I ran to Great Clips, where Kecia cut my hair again. I think she was a little taken aback when I told her that I blogged about her the last time I was there: “Yeah, you told me your name twice, because you forgot you said it at the register and you said it here at the chair again. And you were in super saleslady mode, trying to sell me some shampoo. Talking about yellow dandruff vs. white dandruff. I remember.”

Her mouth sort of hung open a little.

After a few minutes, I said, “Does Kevin/Steven/Scott still work here?” to which she started laughing while glancing over to the other stylist who was sitting on the chair next to us, as I was the only customer in the place.

“Yes, he’s still here,” she laughed.

“He’s a trip,” I said. “A round trip.”

“A round trip?” she echoed?

“Yep, there and back,” I added.

“I ain’t never heard that one,” she laughed.

Flex started Karaoke on Monday nights tonight, so I dropped by for that, since I stayed in Saturday and Sunday. Karaoke used to be Sundays and Tuesday until stopping Tuesdays a couple of months ago. Why it’s starting back on Mondays now, making it two days in a row each week, is beyond me. I suspect it has something to do with what’s good for the emcee.

I spent most of my time talking to both Pauls, but more so with the Paul who has the most beautiful country voice evah. Turns out he was once in a band called The Stetsons, which actually did some national tours, even opening for Reba on one tour.

He told me this right before he sang, and I asked him why he didn’t stay in the business and try to make it, and he said that it was because he was gay and he knew that wouldn’t work out.

When he sang, while enjoying his beautiful voice, I actually cried for how sad it was that we live in a society where one’s hopes and dreams can still be be snuffed out for who you are.

I only stayed at Karaoke for about an hour.
