No eye contact, weigh-in day, the unlottery, and my heart makes an appearance…

~Tuesday~  It was not as cold as I expected it to be this morning. There’s still quite a bit of snow on the ground, particularly in places “where the sun don’t shine.”

The bus driver today was someone I haven’t seen before, a white guy, committed to not making eye contact with boarding customers—at least that was the first impression he gave to me. The “Stop Requested” light was one of those that kept blinking on and off even when no one requested a stop, which I find slightly annoying. Okay, very annoying. At least it did ring when someone pushed to really request a stop.

My 9:00-10:00 weekly department meeting started about 20 minutes late and ended about 10 minutes past the scheduled end time, for a net 50-minute meeting instead of a 60-minute one. Who’s counting?

Once back upstairs, I went over to Jen’s office for our weekly weigh-in. Jason had weighed in earlier, which I know only because I saw his entry on dailyburn.com, where all three of us are tracking our weight, calorie intake, and exercise, and are each other’s “mentors” (their word for “friends”) on there. Four pounds down. Yay. Once again, I was “the biggest loser” this week of the three of us. Not that it’s a competition.

I enjoyed my work day today, especially the last three hours our so, in which I got into designing some web pages. At one point, a peer manager of mine called me over to her office to ask my opinion about wording an invitation to an executive in the UNC system. A professional affirmation.

On the bus ride home, a lady got on at the Western Blvd. / Method Rd. intersection, by which there is a Circle K convenience store. I watched her go to work on about five lottery tickets she’d evidently just purchased. The title of the game on each of them was “Lucky Gold,” and by the time she got to the last one, I’m here to tell you they were neither lucky nor contained gold. Discuss.

Walking up to my townhouse, I was flabbergasted to discover that they (presumably the homeowners association) had shoveled the snow off the sidewalks up to our doors. I mean this is something you’d expect of an HOA, but they’ve certainly never done it before. Sweet.

I really had to make myself go to the gym today, and finally convinced myself with an enticement of only doing a 30-minute cardio workout, which is what I did. 30 minutes on the elliptical machine for a 585-calorie burn.

I forgot to mention yesterday that at the gym a guy was eating in the locker room. I’ll give you a topic, “Eating your free slice of pizza in the locker room.” It’s neither appealing nor appetizing. Disgust.

Sarah, of our salon group, posted a couple of pictures from our gathering on Friday night that I didn’t make due to the snow. I didn’t realize that I was the only one who didn’t make it. They created another “Where’s John?” picture, which they also did in December when I fell asleep and missed “the STC social event of the year.” This warmed my heart:

and then this great group picture taken before they all headed home:

to which I replied about, “This makes me feel like such a party pooper, while at the same time my breath is taken away by the sheer beauty of it. Please know that my heart was there! Thanks for posting this, Sarah!” After which, I posted this picture with the comment, “See…”:

After the gym, I put in a load of laundry, and addressing the fact that I still had a lot of calories left to eat, but they needed to be almost all protein, I had eight ounces of boiled chicken breast and a cup of cottage cheese. Take that.

After a brief instant message chat with Robert and playing a little online Scrabble, I worked on some homework for tomorrow night’s class.
