What’s a blog, HardLox hard knocks, breakfast at Green Sage, blog catch-up, & two affirmations…

~Sunday~  Before checking out, I checked my e-mail and Facebook. I saw on Facebook where my friend Kathleen had been to see Tosca, and we had this “conversation” about it, which resulted in an affirmation:

This morning, I put on my:

and in the elevator of the downtown Asheville Marriott Renaissance Hotel on the way down to the lobby, an older woman in it with Robert and me said, “What’s a blog anyway?”

I told her it was “like an online journal,” but that “companies use them to talk about their products and build relationships, too.”

“Oh, I’m computer illiterate,” she said. “A guy once sent me a link to one in an e-mail, and I didn’t know what it was, so I didn’t click on it.”

We checked out, put our stuff in the car, and we headed to the Tupelo Honey Cafe to have breakfast, as we’d eaten there last time we were in Asheville and had really enjoyed it.

On our walk to it, we passed an area with tents and booths set up for The HardLox Jewish Food and Heritage Festival, and where a good Jewish mother tried to guilt us into eating. Robert had a public tête-à-tête with her telling her that we weren’t from here, we were on our way to Tupelo Honey Cafe for breakfast, and that we’d be out of town in two hours—all of which she was having none of.

When we finally got to Tupelo, there was over an hour wait, so we bagged that, and walked down to the Green Sage Coffehouse & Cafe.

We both had coffee, and I had the:

Classic $8.99
Scrambled Eggs with Sausage, Sweet Potato Home Fries and Toast.

and Robert had the:

Sourdough French Toast $7.74
Two slices served with Organic Agave-Maple Syrup, Butter, and Glazed Pecans

Thanks for the treat, my sweet!

We were on the road before noon, and we had an uneventful trip home, with a couple of traffic snags where two lanes merged down to one for no apparent reason other than to inconvenience travelers.

I dropped Robert off in Durham, ran in quickly to see his new chair and to use the restroom, and then took highway 70, instead of I-40, back into Raleigh to avoid potential State Fair traffic. Riding into Raleigh on NC 70 is annoying. Too many traffic lights, specifically too many turning red in my direction.

I went all the way down to Oberlin, and took it over to Pullen, through NC State, and then up Western Blvd and Avent Ferry Road.

I tried my damnest to resist a nap when I got home, but I fell prey to one eventually. I limited it to an hour, and once up caught my blog up, devising Thursday’s, Friday’s, Saturday’s and this one.

After posting my Friday entry, a reader and friend of mine posted this writing affirmation, which I so appreciated:

Lynda Schultz: I have said it before, and I will say it again, I love your blogs! Especially when I am stuck indoors. I read your blogs and feel like I have gone on an outing, sad I know…lol but thanks for cheering me up on a regular basis John, I enjoy our “dates.”

I did not get to the work I wanted to do for my job before tomorrow. Oh well.
