Desperately seeking affirmations in these trying times, and a fun night of dancing…

~Wednesday~  Since I was up doing three hours worth of work until 1:00 AM, I slept in a little this morning, and then caught the Wolfline #9 GV Tripper to DH Hill bus into work. I first tried to park at the Food Lion Park & Ride, but finding no available spots, I ended up along Gorman near the intersection of Avent Ferry.

Quarters are close on the Wolfline buses and I wasn’t pleased with the amount of hacking the young man sitting to my right did during my ride to work. I kept telling myself, “It’s just reflux. That’s not a cold and those aren’t germs I can’t see flying in front of me.”

I arrived at my office just minutes after 10:00 AM. I had this nice e-mail in my inbox from Jen in response to my edit that I sent her before going to bed last night. I consider it both a personal and professional affirmation.

Thank you so much, John. I’m sorry for dropping so much on you so late and I’m going to come and offer you gratitude later today once this thing gets gone! Thank you.

Jen

I met April—a young lady interested in technical communication as a career—during lunch today at Reverie coffee shop. We had a good conversation, and as I stuck my hand out to say goodbye, she stood up saying, “I want a hug,” which I took as an implicit, personal affirmation.

I stopped in That’s Amore Pizza on the way back to grab a takeout sandwich for my lunch. While I waited, a young lady was bent way over a dozen cupcakes, squeezing real hard on a frosting cone, and I’m quite sure she had her tongue sticking out in concentration, although I couldn’t see her face because her long hair was hanging down—and a strand of it, I might add, was touching the icing on one of the completed cupcakes.

When I returned to the office, this personal, unsolicited affirmation was in my personal e-mail inbox. It’s always interesting to learn about how others think of you. I would have had no inkling that this quote would have reminded my friend, Steve, of me, but I like that it does. 🙂

Hey John,

Hope things are good. This one made me think of you. Just wanted to share. Happy Hump Day!!! (Things are good here. Work is crazy. Kids are good. Shaun is awesome. Hope to see you soon!!! )

POSITIVE QUOTE OF THE DAY

“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”

Epictetus (55-135 AD) Greek Philosopher

Dancing was fun tonight, as both Joe C. and Bob M. were out. Carl showed wearing a medical boot on his left foot; evidently I was the only one that didn’t know he was getting some minor surgery done.

Drew was in the DJ both, and evidently I was the only one who didn’t know Van was going to be gone for a couple of weeks. He’s helping his sister move—driving across country with her and her stuff—from Colorado to Florida.

I got a lot of exercise dancing—thank god, as I’m not getting in anywhere else these days. I danced the most two-steps of anyone, too, which is no surprise when you’re one of the few dancers who can both lead and follow.
