Stopping the insanity AGAIN, a backpack lunch bag, plaid-on-plaid action, and a catnap gone awry…

~Tuesday~  I’ve had a decent week of dieting (yes, I’m dieting once again), and although I exceeded my target daily calorie count on Saturday and Sunday, I’d planned for that by being under three times during the week.

Tuesday is generally my weigh-in day when I’m dieting, which is what’s prompting this musing in today’s entry.

On Friday, I did an interim weigh-in and was down three pounds. This morning, not so much. However, in general, I let how I feel physically and mentally measure my “success” when dieting, and I have felt much better this week than I have in a while. Just being back in control helps with that, I think.

There are a few things driving yet another attempt to stop the insanity:

  1. My right knee has been killing me the last few weeks, and although I can’t say it’s directly related to my weight, it can’t but help to eliminate some of the weight it’s having to carry around.
  2. I’ve talked about what I’ve dubbed the “Fat as Fuck Plan” on and off here over the last year or so, which is the implementation in the State Health Plan for fiscal year 2011-2012 where if your BMI (←calculate yours there) is over 40, you will be forced to sign up for the 70/30 plan instead of the 80/20. Well time flies when you’re eating Cheetos, and that fiscal year starts July 1, 2011.
  3. In the next couple of months, I will be going back to my primary physician (Amy Hird, whom I love, by the way) for my annual physical, and if my “numbers,” specifically my HDL/LDL numbers, haven’t improved over last year’s, she is going to put me on high cholesterol medication. I absolutely do not want to go on another medication. I’m already on Lisinopril for hypertension and Nexium for acid reflux.

On the positive side with regards to the State Health Plan, I was able to enroll in the 80/20 plan today, as my BMI came in under the 40 maximum, at 32.7, which however, is beyond even the overweight category into the obese category. 🙁

Also on the positive side, with regards to my upcoming physical, I am currently 15 pounds lighter than I was at last year’s physical, and I’ve been exercising a lot more than I was at this time last year, so there’s still hope to avoid the new medication if I stick to this over the ensuing couple of months.

Okay, enough old people aches-and-pains-and-pills talk.

I was up a little earlier than usual this morning, and I had to use a separate bag for my lunch, because in addition to my thermos of coffee, my breakfast sandwich, my lunch sandwich, and my banana, today I packed a container of cantaloupe and a container of watermelon, too. I ended up using my backpack as a lunch bag. Your dieting strategy might be suspect if your lunch bag is a backpack. Just sayin’.

An Asian guy sitting next to me on the Wolfline #9 Greek Village bus was reading a book called The Shadow of Your Smile, which was heavily highlighted in bright orange. I counted (Yenta!) 35 highlighted instances of mostly single words, but a couple of phrases as well, on one page.

As you and I both know, I’m about as far away from a fashionista as is possible, but the man sitting across from me had some eyebrow-raising plaid-on-plaid action going on:

I had one meeting today, and it was my weekly staff meeting with my boss, which is scheduled from 9:00 – 10:00. When she hadn’t arrived in the conference room by 9:05, I went to check on her, and found her so deeply engrossed into her day that she’d lost track of the time.

We had a quick meeting, finishing up by 9:20.

I enjoyed the last couple of hours of my day, which involved two writing tasks—one putting the finishing touches on an article that’s going in a university publication, The Bulletin, and another that was a write-up for an upcoming lunch and learn in July.

At home, I had Lemon-Pepper Gorton’s Grilled Fillets for dinner with some green beans.

At about 8:30, I lay down on my bed for a minute, and I woke up at 11:00, which will undoubtedly throw my sleeping off-kilter tonight. I hate when that happens.
