My first time mountain-biking…

Robert and I went to Finch’s for breakfast. I had a Cheddar Omelet with wheat toast. Yum. Robert had a Western Omelet with hash browns and wheat toast. An absolute motor mouth sat at the table next to us. Presumably, a daughter with her parents. Yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack, yack!

I met Joe at his place at 2:30, and we loaded his second mountain bike into his SUV. We went out to Lake Crabtree, and I rode his bike, just to get used to it, on the pavement, before we headed into the trails in the woods. This was my first time mountain biking and I have the blisters to prove it. I must have really been bearing down on the gearshift and handlebar grips.

It was very interesting, and intense, this kind of biking. It took me back to February of 2003, when I first got my rode bike, and started training for the AIDS ride. There’s a lot to think about when riding, and going over huge tree roots, and around sharp curves on narrow paths doesn’t make it any easier. It made me smile to think back on my Training Ride Journal.

We ended the ride, the last 40 minutes or so, on the greenway, which is paved, and thus smooth. It was a welcomed relief. We took a break on a little overlook, near an incredibly stanking trashcan, and a lady came and sat down there with a pug. That dog was so cute. He was panting so hard. I said to him, “I know exactly how you feel, bud.”

On the way home, I called mom for Mother’s Day. Sounded like all was well. She had bingo plans for the night, which comes as a surprise to no one. 🙂

I met Joe for coffee at Helios at 7. Brad M. was there, with, presumably, a bunch of students. He was actually grading papers amongst the glasses of wine and laughter all around their table.

Joe and I each had a cup of coffee and a small Lindt White Chocolate ball. Extreme Yum!

We went to Flex from there, and after not too long, got a pool table. We played several games of pool, with, eventually, a guy named Kevin joining us, and was it Walter? I think so.

Brian came at around 9:30 or 10, and we had our usual fun, catty night. I drank too much, and as soon as I got in the door at home, put in a CPK BBQ Chicken Pizza — to absorb the alcohol. That’s my story and it’s sticking to me.
