| I received my flu shot, compliments of IBM, today. I’ve always wondered why they ask you if you’re allergic to eggs when getting this vaccine.
Down in the “Influenza Vaccine Adverse Reactions” section of the form it explains: CONTRAINDICATIONS: INFLUENZA VIRUS IS PROPAGATED IN EGGS FOR THE PREPARATION OF INFLUENZA VIRUS VACCINE; THUS, THIS VACCINE SHOULD NOT BE ADMINISTERED TO ANYONE WITH A HISTORY OF HYPERSENSITIVITY TO ANY COMPONENT OF THE VACCINE INCLUDING THIMERSOL. I appreciate the use of the semicolon in this sentence. I also think contraindications is a most eloquent word. While filling out my consent form, this guy, dork to be exact, came up and didn’t know his division number. I recognized this guy from years ago, and I thought, “Oh lord.” The person there to help basically told him he could just put Tivoli’s division number there, and it would be okay. He stood around, talking to himself, looking at the form, shifting legs, rolling his eyes, and sighing, and I thought, “My g-d, how can someone like this still be around in this company after 20 years?” Never mind here; how does someone like this get through life? |
| Sometimes technology is so frustrating. I got a brand new laptop at work. I powered it up for the first time. A window popped up instructing me to change the administrator id and give it a password.
I changed the admin id from “administrator” to “jmartin4” and gave it a password. I had to repeat the password to make sure I had it right. Then it made me restart the laptop. The Windows Log On screen eventually comes back up with the “new and improved” administrator id, jmartin4, in it, and I type in the password I gave it with that id. This is the thanks I get:

Logon Message| At work, we have an instant message system that allows us to “subscribe” to various “channels.” Basically, channels are just topics of interest, and there are all kinds of them. People are free to make them up.
Every time you start up the system, it presents any newly created channels, and you have the option to join any that are of an interest to you. One of the channels I’m subscribed to is Catholics. Today this broadcast popped up, which just tickled me for some reason.

| Dancing was quite festive tonight.
There were several new people, two of whom saw us dancing last Sunday at CCs, and had come for lessons – Scott and Troy. Carl taught Tall, Tall Trees, and about 10 people took the lesson. I thought about Robert during a waltz, “You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Lucille,” and wished he’d been there to do it with me. I had no partner for the California Bump, and started doing it by myself, just following behind Carl and Michael and Jeremy and Anthony, but then Ernie ran out and joined me. He didn’t really know the dance, but he was a trooper, and I appreciated the partner. Tula Box invited us to her birthday party next Thursday, and I hate that we’ll be flying out that morning, so won’t make it. |
