Oscar dissonance…

I had big plans today to get way ahead on my course readings, but that did not come to fruition.

Carmichael gym is on “Spring Break Hours” this week, so was only open from 1-5 today.

From 2:00 – 2:30, I did the elliptical machine on level 10. I worked up a good sweat, and at times was so jamming to “dance tunes” on my iPod that I’m sure I looked like a big old dancing queen on the machine.

Following that, I did a 30-minute “brisk walk” around the indoor track, during which I enjoyed the soundtrack to Rent. I particularly love Seasons of Love, Light my Candle, Tango: Maureen, and La Vie Boheme.

I met Joe at Helios, and we walked over to Hibernian for dinner, which was pretty darn good.

Afterwards, we walked back to Helios, where we joined Kevin (av8rdude), who was having his dinner there.

The three of us sat along the wall, and commented on everything in life and everyone who went by. At one point, Joe and I got to laughing so hard about two or three things in a row, that our sides were hurting so bad.

And while we were in the midst of this particular fit, Joe noticed this guy sitting to our left, who we’d commented on earlier about having no chin, laughing at us laughing.

I said while almost cry-laughing, “I’d bet he’d think, ‘I swear by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin that those guys are gay,’ but he has no chin.” OMG. That did us in. Sidesplitting.

If “laughter is the best medicine,” we’re set for another year of good health.

From there, Joe said goodnight, and Kevin and I proceeded to Flex, which could only be described in one way tonight: dissonance.

They had both the Oscars going on in there and live Karaoke. They tried to make it so that the sound for the Oscars was contained on the side of the place where the bar is, and the sound for Karaoke was in the other section. However, there was serious “bleeding” going on.

It was so grating, that after a while Kevin said, “This noise is starting to make me feel angry.

They need to rethink that idea for next year. They did have close captioning on for the Oscars, and I think that’s all they should have had on. I mean if people are serious about the Oscars, they either go to an Oscar party devoted, well, exclusively to the Oscars, or they stay home and watch it.

And if you’re not that serious about it, or if Karaoke is so much your life that you couldn’t possibly give up one night of it, then it’s more important to you than the Oscars, and watching the close captioning of them should suffice.

The world according to John.

Amen.
