Homework, and outbound affirmation, and some free pool…

I was up at 7:30 this morning, which on the one hand is very early for me on a Sunday.  However, on the other hand (he wore a ring—ba-dump bump, I’m here all day folks), since I went to bed at 9:30 (after an hour of sleep on the couch) that was really 10 or 11 hours worth of sleep. Who’s counting? Who cares?

This is an “outbound affirmation” I sent to a classmate of mine in my Rhetoric of Science and Technology class:

Hi Sandy,

Just a quick note to say that I appreciate how/when you comment (both on the discussion board and in class) on my postings. I keep a blog called “Daily Afirmations” (a story behind only one “f” in affirmation in the name), where I try to note things that I feel are affirmations in my life, and I do consider your commenting an affirmation (and that’s irrespective of whether you agree or disagree with me).

Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you—and that I admire your mind. See you in class tomorrow night.

Best regards,

John

It just occurred to me that if I weren’t gay, this might make a great pick-up line. 🙂

I know I’ve been bitching and moaning about all the grad school reading, but there is one thing I really like about the readings, and that is coming across words that I’m not familiar with, but that are the perfect word in the context of what the writer is trying to convey.

Four such words from this weekend’s readings were: arable, palimpsest, polemical, and undergird (which I originally read as undergrid, which is not a word).

I spent most of the afternoon at Helios with Joe, trying to read my Verbal Data Analysis assigned readings for Tuesday’s class. OMG, what gibberish.

Joe and I went over to Hibernian for a quick dinner, where we had the best Bloody Marys in the world, I think. So good. We split an appetizer of bacon and cheese fries and both had the Caesar Salad with Shrimp added to it. Way delicious meal all around.

We went back to Helios, where after about a half-hour’s worth of entering data about his client visit last week at work, his computer totally died for being out of charge in the battery. The application he was using to enter the data was a “full screen” app, which didn’t allow him to receive the “battery low” warnings. What a piece of crap app!

We did the only thing you can do in this situation, and that’s go to Flex for a drink and some free pool. We played about 6 games. I won 4 and Joe won 2. But it’s not about winning; it’s about the journey. My journeys were a little shorter than his.

I’m not in the best place with my homework for this week, but I believe it’s at a “manageable” place.
