SSDD, a killer lunch salad, a few more puns, game planning, a cruisy trail closes, and a workout…

Excuse the broken record.

I worked from home this morning, and from Helios this afternoon. Guess doing what. Right!  Editing.

I had lunch before heading to Helios, and I just can’t articulate how delicious it was: a salad consisting of lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped scallions, diced red peppers, a chopped hard-boiled egg, julienned carrots, pineapple tidbits, a few raisins, some grated sharp Wisconsin cheddar cheese, and a little bit of ground beef.

Oh yeah, all topped with Irregardless’ Lemon Tahini Dressing. Mostly, it’s awl about the food.

Those of you who know me know that I’m a big fan of puns. I have several entries in my blog with puns noted in them. Here are four more that I recently came across:

  • A ham and cheese sandwich goes into a bar and asks for a beer. The bartender says, “Sorry, we don’t serve food here.”
  • A horse goes into a bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says, “Sure, but why the long face?”
  • Quasimodo is looking for a replacement. He brings up a candidate who is rather slight. He instructs the candidate on how to ring the Notre Dame bell by throwing the hefty rope across the belfry, then catching it. The candidate tries this, catches the rope with his face, loses his balance, and falls to his death. Quasimodo shuffles downstairs to hear the crowd forming ask, “Does anyone know his name?”

Quasimodo responds, “I don’t know his name, but his face sure rings a bell.”

  • Quasimodo puts anther ad in the paper for a replacement bell ringer. The next candidate is the twin brother of the first. He shows the candidate the rope tossing method for bell ringing, the candidate catches the rope with his face, and falls to his death the same way his twin brother did. Quasimodo shuffles downstairs to hear the crowd forming ask, “Does anyone know his name?”

Quasimodo responds, “No, but he sure is a dead ringer for the other guy.”

I spent some time today with a lot of back-and-forth e-mails regarding the planning of our STC Games Night.

I am extremely surprised that “Word not found” is returned from a search on homosexual in this article.

I waited until a little later in the evening tonight to work out, as it’s less crowded there the later it gets. I have to say, though, I’ve gone the last two times at peak times, and both times, I had no problem getting an elliptical machine or treadmill. They have a lot of machines there.

While exercising, I listened to the 01/18/08 This American Life episode, called Matchmakers. I really, really liked the third act:

Babies Buying Babies.

Elna Baker reads her story about the time she worked at the giant toy store, FAO Schwartz. Her job was to sell these lifelike “newborns” which were displayed in a “nursery” inside the store. When the toys become the hot new present, they begin to fly off the shelves. When the white babies sell out, white parents are faced with a choice: will they go for an Asian, Latino, or African-American baby instead? What happens is so disturbing that Elna has a hard time even telling it. (16 minutes)

While listening to this podcast, I couldn’t help but think of the video A Girl Like Me, which I talked about in my June 25, 2007 blog entry.
