Badu’s back, a busy work day, scheduling for The Turn of the Screw, and tunnel light…

~Tuesday~ The Erykah Badu lady with the heavy eyelashes was on the bus again this morning. She had on her black, pin-striped pants again, but the rest of the outfit was different. She had on white eye shadow, which accentuated her eyes and heavy lashes even more if you can imagine, especially since she’s African-American.

We had our weekly one-hour department meeting, which we hoped would be less than an hour, but it wasn’t.

Jude, my manager, brought apples and yogurt to the meeting. I had peach yogurt, which was yummy, especially for being the fat-free variety. I brought three slices of (Southern) Amish Friendship Bread, of which Jude and Rhonda split a piece and I had a piece. Jude took the other piece and ate it later in the morning at her desk.

Our department’s day was a hectic, busy one.

I made two phone calls during lunch, the first to my insurance agent about that ridamndiculous letter I got from Nationwide, and the second to schedule a doctor’s appointment.

My insurance call ended up being bad news and good, good news. The bad news was that it was that ticket I got last year in July that they received information about, which would have an effect on my September premium coming up. The good, good news was: 1) that ticket is “waivable” (I’m not sure why and I didn’t ask), which means they are not going to assess any insurance points for it, and 2) the ticket that I got for rolling through a stop sign three years ago comes off my record in this next renewal period. So, in summary, my insurance premium is actually going to drop in September. w00t!

The doctor’s appointment I made was with the dermatologist that my GP, Amy Hird, referred me to back when I had my physical in May—the one about whom she said, “This doctor will actually talk to you.” His first available appointment wasn’t until August 11th. Not that it’s all about having a hot doctor, but I did check him out. I’ll give him this, he’s more handsome than the three other doctors there. And, he’s miles more handsome than the dermatologist I’ve used up until now. But I digress…

My friend Susan (former grad school professor of mine, now friend) pointed out to me that they are doing The Turn of the Screw (not The Taming of the Shrew!) as part of the Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy series at the Kennedy Theater in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts at the end of July, beginning of August.

The book on which the play is based has special meaning for a group of my friends and former grad school colleagues, which is revealed here. And to that end, I found all but one of the people in that class, on Facebook, and I sent them this invitation. Susan was our professor for that class; hence, the connection there. And for most of us in it, that was the best class in our entire grad school experience.

I had every intention of going to the gym tonight, and afterwards, going to either Cup of Joe, Third Place, or the DH Hill Library to read.

Just before changing into my workout clothes, however, I simply grabbed my book and went directly to Cup of Joe’s at Mission Valley, where I read for about an hour-and-a-half. Oh, yes, most definitely now:

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
