Some writing, a tricky puzzle, dinner with friends, and a little karaoke…

~Sunday~  I made cheddar cheese omelets for us for breakfast, with three turkey sausage links each, and an English muffin. And coffee, of course.

I wrote an entry that I’m going to submit to AARP for a column they’re doing in September: “Tell us what you really know about television. E-mail your factual essay of up to 400 words.”

Robert and I worked a bitch of a crossword puzzle, employing the Internet for close to half of it, which I don’t think we’ve ever done before. We usually just look up any last few we might be stuck on.

It didn’t help that it took us quite a while to figure out that the title, “Half-Baked,” was going to lead to answers such as, “Pie Pie Birdie,” “Muffin Doing,” “Pita Piper,” “Crumpet Vine,” and “Cruller Blind.” Collective groan.

While doing the puzzle, we enjoyed the fruits (literally) of our labor from yesterday by polishing off a big container of fresh, cold, sliced, and deliciously sweet watermelon.

I drove out to North Raleigh for a 5:00 dinner invitation with the Myers family. We’ve met a few times for breakfast at Finch’s downtown, but this was the first time I’ve been to their home, which felt just as comfortable and welcoming as they are.

I loved everything about the meal they made—a yellow squash-zuchinni squash-sliced onion medley, a pasta salad, and this magnificently delicious chicken breast stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese and bacon and wood-fired on the grill.

Meredith and Daniel provided entertainment and dicussion fodder—so cute, each in their own way, and I learned about Phineas and Ferb, which riveted Daniel, and one of whose characters, as it turns out, has a blog.

On the way home, I stopped by Flex to check out karaoke. I only stayed about an hour. Rick and Military Mary were there when I arrived, and just before I left, Van (from Fayetteville) arrived, who treated me to two Jack and Cokes before I slipped on out of there.
