A messed up file system, a Lunch & Learn, and the university-level Awards for Excellence…

~Tuesday~ I got a little behind this morning in spite of getting up early, and by the time I’d made coffee and packed my lunch, I’d missed the 8:15 bus. I drove over to the Wolfline stop at Gorman St. and Kings Court, and got on the #9 Greek Village bus at a little after 8:30.

There was a very sexy guy sitting across from me, who slept on the way, and I took two pictures of him. However, in sending them from my phone to Gmail, they messed up, and unbeknownst to me at the time, somehow messed up my “file system,” according to an error message I got later in the day when trying to take another picture. Must figure that out.

We had our weekly staff meeting from 9:00-10:00, which actually ran over by ten minutes, but it was a good meeting.

I attended a Lunch & Learn from 12:15 – 13:00, which was about NC State’s presence in Second Life: Wolflands.

At 2:00 today was the university-level Awards for Excellence event, in which the winners of the award at the college- and unit-level come together to be honored. As you may recall, my friend Nick and I won from our “unit” (The Office of Information Technology), so we joined 44 other “winners” from the rest of the university, from which they picked five overall winners today.

They called each of us up to the front of the room to be presented a rounded-glass plaque from the new Chancellor of NC State, and while we stood there, a recording enumerating some of the reasons we were nominated played while a few pictures of us passed in a slideshow.

Here’s a pic of Nick getting his award, followed by two group pictures of both Nick and I with some of our colleagues. I particularly like the very last picture!

Neither Nick nor I “won” in this round of competition, but as I tweeted after the event:

Funny. I didn’t “win.” But I feel like a “winner” anyway. #University #Excellence #Award

To which Stan, my boss’s boss replied by Twitter:

@nematome You are a winner John! As are Nick and the other honorees. Congratulations again… you’re terrific.

I had a lazy evening, which included a two-hour nap.

I had a quick instant message conversation with Robert at around 10:00, and I made several moves in several Scrabble games during my evening.

I filled out the 4th Annual LGBT Community Survey.
