Buscapades, day-old bagels, post office box roulette, a haircut, and visualizing a workout…

~Monday~  I caught the 8:15 city bus, and there were only two people already on when I boarded. At the next stop, a sync stop, the bus driver actually got out of the bus holding his pointer and middle finger up saying, “Two minutes folks,” as he departed. He played on his smart phone for the entire two minutes. At least the air-conditioning was on.

At the Conifer/Gorman stop, that man got on that holds his baby high on his chest so that it looks like he sort of has it draped over his shoulder, and today it was in swaddling clothes; that is to say, there was some type of blanket wrapped around it—the antecedent to “it” in all of these references meaning “the baby,” as I’m not sure of its gender.

A man got on behind him with a huge spider web tattoo on the outside of his upper arm—starting at his shoulder and extending all the way to the crook of his arm.

Looking up, I saw an ad for “Serena’s Song” from July 20-22, which was billed as, “the world’s first wheelchair-accessible hot air balloon.” I wondered how big a market there was for that amenity.

As we passed both the inbound and outbound stops at Brooks and Hillsborough I checked to see if the CAT Bus Stop signs for those stops had been erected yet. Let me put a look of surprise on everyone’s face that they haven’t:

My only work meeting today was at 3:00 in a building off-campus, and I grabbed the Wolfline #9 Greek Village bus to get there. My hands, arms, and shoulders were full as I had my soft-sided briefcase, my laptop bag, and a box of shirts to deliver from someone in our building to someone in the building I was going to.

After an hour meeting with a colleague, I misjudged how quickly the bus would arrive at the nearby stop, and I missed it by about 30 seconds. I crossed the street and sat in the Bruegger’s Bagel place until the next one, and where I bought a bag of six of “yesterday’s bagels” for $2.99. Pumpernickel, which I love.

At home I jumped in my car and rushed to get to a post office box marked: “Last pickup: 5:00.” I arrived there at 5:01, and since I didn’t see a mail person driving away from it or anything, I have to assume that I made it in time. However, it sure would have been nice had there been something like one of these on the box [hover over image for attribution]:

After that, I got a quick haircut for $7.99 at Great Clips—yay for back to school and new semester student coupon books. Latoya cut my hair, and we did a 4 on the top, 2 on the sides.

I got to the gym at 8:00, and from where I was parked I could see a bumper sticker, but couldn’t read the whole thing. I saw that the first word was “Visualize,” and at first I thought it was this one:

But getting a little closer, I thought, “No, that’s not it,” and then I thought, “Oh, it must be this one”:

But then I saw that it wasn’t that one either, but this, which I’ve never seen before, and which I just loved, as it’s one of my pet peeves:

I did a 40-minute cardio workout on the elliptical machine, for a 697-calorie burn. I listened to more Click & Clack of Car Talk. Those guys just crack me up.

There was some kind of dating reality show on the TV in front of me and I thought I would absolutely gag reading some of the closed captions, thinking, “Really? Really?? People watch this?” The guy said something like, “When I’m with Ali, I’m just completely in heaven.” And then she said something like, “When I’m with [don’t remember his name], life is so good.”

And if that wasn’t enough to make you call earl, there was a scene where they presumably hadn’t seen each other for a while and they were walking across a pier toward each other, and one of them says to the other once they get within hearing earshot of each other, “Is this the longest pier ever?” Excuse me while I talk to Ralph on the big white phone.

These days, from my FEEDJIT report on the right-hand side of my blog, I’m wondering who my regular visitors are from Rensselaer, NY, Syracuse, NY, and Lenoir, NC. Do I know you? Care to share? If not with a comment via the link at the bottom of this entry, then via e-mail?
