You’re repeating yourself—or maybe you aren’t

~Friday~ The prodigal porker returned to the gym today. My fatted calf—and my fatted thigh and other parts, for that matter—were like, “WTF?”

I had the following short conversation with myself at about 6:00:

Superego: How are you going to feel if you don’t go to the gym tonight?

Ego: Shitty; down on yourself.

Superego: And how are you going to feel if you do go to the gym tonight?

Ego: Great; glad I went.

With that pep talk out of the way, I called to confirm that they were closing at their regular time of 9:00 on Friday evenings and headed to Planet Fitness.

I did 225 (15 sets of 15 reps of) ab crunches, and with each set, I thought, “You are so going to feel this tomorrow.”

After that, I did 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine. Since there was very little eye candy in the free weight area, I instead watched the end of Jeopardy, and most of “The Wheel“—both via closed-captioning, which is quite tedious.

I didn’t hear how the sequence actually played out, as I got distracted from the TV screen (and hence the captioning), but I imagined the solving of one of the puzzles to have gone like this:

Contestant: “Pat, I’d like to solve the puzzle.”

Pat: “Okay, go ahead.”

Contestant: “Pat, I’d like to solve the puzzle.”

Pat: “Okay, go ahead!

Contestant: “Pat, I’d like to solve the puzzle.”

Pat (laughing): “Yes, that’s it. Very well done.”

The category of the puzzle was “A saying,” and the answer to it was: “Pat, I’d like to solve the puzzle.”
