~Tuesday~ When I got back from lunch today, there was a very nice gift bag—complete with tissue paper to match, sitting on the chair in front of my desk.
On the inside was an expensive gift, but I couldn’t find any note telling me who left it there, nor could I think of any reason anyone at work might give me such a nice gift.
It was in that elegant pouch like that and had that cool topper in it.
I asked a couple of people whom I thought it might have come from—to no avail. Then I thought there was a good chance it might have come from a Facebook friend, as “bourbon” is a frequent vocabulary word in my Facebook posts, comments, and check-ins, so I posted about it there—to no avail.
When that failed, I sent a thank-you email to our “social” email list at work, and a few minutes later one of my colleagues came to my office to point out that she’d left a message on my whiteboard, which I didn’t see because there was already a lot of old writing all over it.
Her message:
Thank you so much for all your help when I needed it! Hope you like the package! Samila |
This was in thanks for some editing work I did on her dissertation quite a while back now, which is why it didn’t occur to me that it might be from her. Plus, I didn’t expect any “compensation” for it.
This is a cherished professional affirmation to me, because it’s the second such incredibly kind gesture that I’ve received in thanks for my editing skills in the last month. The other one was for a conference paper I edited recently for another colleague.
I work with some great people.
