Anchorman and Clue…

~Thursday~ It was unintentional, but I watched two movies today. Well, one was intentional, and the other was fortuitous.

Jen and I got together to hang out, and watch some TV, which we haven’t done in forever, but we ended up watching a movie instead.

Synopsis: Ron Burgundy is San Diego’s top rated newsman in the male-dominated broadcasting of the 70’s, but that’s all about to change for Ron and his cronies when an ambitious woman is hired as a new anchor.

My thoughts and observations about this movie:

  • The best thing I can say about this movie is that I enjoyed Jen enjoying it, and enjoying some time with Nala during it.
  • I have never really liked a Will Ferrel movie that I’ve seen—and admittedly I haven’t seen many—and this one didn’t break the streak. Way too sophomoric for my taste.
  • I was happy to give it a chance, but I was always in it just for the social aspect of hanging out with Jen.

Thanks for having me over, Jen!

I stopped by Bob’s after leaving Jen’s, and he had just started watching Clue in honor of Eileen Brennan’s recent passing, so I joined him for that. Not unlike the recently watched In & Out, before I started watching this movie, I thought I’d seen it a long time ago, but by the end I was so sure. I certainly didn’t remember the ending, if I had seen it.

Synopsis: Six guests are invited to a strange house and must cooperate with the staff to solve a murder mystery.

My thoughts and observations about this movie:

  • I absolutely adored the playing with words that took place throughout this movie. “Smart writing,” was what I kept thinking.
  • I had forgotten that there were three different endings for this movie, which were all presented at the end of this version of the film. What I didn’t realize was that, according to its Wikipedia entry, “In keeping with the nature of the board game, in theatrical release of the movie was shown with one of three possible endings, with different theaters receiving each ending.
  • I liked that it had a “gay element” to it.
  • Maximum rating stars on this one for me. Or at least one fewer than the maximum.
