I had a 7:40 eye appointment today, my annual exam. I dropped Jeff off at the office at about 7:15, and was at the doctor’s office by about 7:20, 7:25. They ended up starting early with me. Those machines they use to do all the tests are very cool to me. When the assistant finished with me, just put the drops in to start my eyes dialating.
The doctor came in after about 15 minutes. That man is so incredibly handsome; he drives me crazy. At one point, he sat opposite me with our legs under a machine, my legs in the middle, his on the outside. I slowly started opening my legs until I could feel his. What a pig I am.
He reminded me of my mortality, indirectly, by saying, “Your near vision has gotten a little bit worse, and from what it has changed since last year, you’re probably on a track now, for the next 15 years or so, of incremental change like this. So, into your late 50’s, early 60’s, and then it will probably just stay where it is.” Sobering thought to think that in 15 years, I’ll be “in my late 50s, early 60’s.” Little did I know it was to be my first reminder of my mortality today.
I got back to work shortly after 9:00. Mathis delivered ice cream just before noon. We chose ice cream sandwiches. We had lunch with Jay at Piper’s in the Park. It was a fun lunch. Jeff and I went over to B500 just after 4:00 for the free Wellness Check. We got our cholesterol and glucose checked, he got his body fat checked, I got my bone density checked (the “45-and-over-club”), our blood pressure checked, and then had a free mini-massage. When I was getting my cholesterol and glucose checked, that lady said, “Now if you’re 45 or over; I’m not saying you are, but if you are, you can get your bone density checked.” I said, “Yes, I’m 45, so I’ll just get my cane and hobble over to the bone density station.” “Oh, really, I never would have thought…” “Good answer!” I retorted as if I were on an enthusiastic Family Feud team.
We left work at about 6:00, and stopped by Sam’s on the way home to pick up my pictures from the ride. I’m pleased with them! Robert got some great shots! I’m disappointed in the ones of me with my bike over my head, though. It’s not anything that Robert did. I’m not holding the bike up high enough, and it looks like I’m struggling even though the bike is quite light, and I didn’t feel like I was struggling.
Once home, Jeff took a nap, and I ran to the grocery store. When I got back, I cut up some chourico, put it on a 4-cheese pizza and cooked that for our dinner. Jeff wasn’t going to have any, but ended up eating half of it, which I was glad about for two reasons: 1) it kept me from eating the whole thing, and 2) it kept us from having to stop to get something to eat on the way to the movie.
We left the house a little after 8:30 to pick up Jay. Once there, he told us that David was joining us. We went to see “Tully,” which I really enjoyed.
We dropped Jay and David off at Jay’s house, went home, and pretty much right to bed. I read just a couple of pages of that dreadful book, and fell asleep — in spite of Jenna’s party a few houses down, at which they all thought it was hilarious making the little dog bark at the big dog over and over at 11:30 at night.
