Robert came over after work and we had dinner at Hard Times Cafe. It was our first time there. They bring this little four section plate of chili to the table and place it on a card that has a description of the four different kinds of chili that are on the plate that sits on top of the card. One of them, as part of the description says,”…in it’s own sauce…” Of course I had to point it out to the management on the way out. They actually seemed like they cared.
We rode out to Garner, where the annual Chili Kickoff was going on. We didn’t get there until about 8:30, 8:45 and most folks had left. Steve was there, though, as was Sylvia, Phil, and Spencer, and Steve’s mom. His cousin was playing bluegrass as part of the entertainment.
This was the first time I’d seen Sylvia since her cancer diagnosis, subsequent mastectomy, and chemo treatments. She had a floppy hat on, and looked good. She also seemed to be in good spirits.
On the way home we stopped at the drive-thru at Arby’s and got Jamocha shakes. Yum!
At home, we listened to a Lily Tomlin comedy CD that Robert had ordered several weeks ago, and had finally arrived. She did a lot of “Ernestine telephone scenes,” which were quite funny.
