We got up at a little after 10, and easily made the noon check-out, which was uneventful.
As I’m writing this, I’m remembering that Michael told us to stop by to say good-bye before we left, but we didn’t. Sorry about that.
Rick was gracious enough to drive most of the way back, while I devised yesterday’s blog entry on my laptop. Thanks, Rick!
At one point, we had a philosophical discussion about the difference, if there is one, between dancing and performing. The impetus for this discussion, of course, was the weekend’s dance instructor.
I contended that there is a difference, and that there’s a time for dancing, and a time for performing.
That dance instructor performed all the time — even when he was just line dancing out there with the regular folk. For example, even at the end of a simple dance, he would end by doing something like stopping stiff with his legs set and displaying his hands, like a “ta-da.”
Nobody I’ve ever seen line-dancing does that. Unless they’re a pompous ass of course. [Oooh, she’s bitter.]
I thought that when he did that one dance alone — his true performance (which, by the way, ironically, I thought was one of his weakest dances of all) — it was, of course, appropriate to do all that jazz.
And I’d go so far as to say that when they played one of the dances that he’d taught during the weekend, and he was sort of “leading” it, I’d almost say it was appropriate then, even though it really came across to me, as “look at me,” when you’d think he’d be wanting to send the message, “look at what my students have accomplished.”
Rick contended that he was performing all weekend — that he was a hired performer for the event.
We hit no traffic tie-ups on the way back, so it was smooth sailing.
Somewhere before the 85/40 split, we stopped at a rest stop to use the restroom. There was a lady outside “walking” her dog — the cutest little white puppy.
I drove the rest of the way back from there, dropping Robert off in Durham first, and then Rick in Raleigh.
I got a voice mail message from Joe about his safe arrival in KCMO, only to find themselves in the midst of tornadoes!
I went to Flex for scareyoke, which was pretty uneventful.
I spoke with Brian (brianrdu), Robert F., Joe & Phil, and Tom over the course of the evening.
There was a couple there, who turned out to be brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They were from Utah, and here on business together.
The guy was hot and had on a shirt that said, “Polygamy Porter” on the back. Of course, being from Utah, I assumed…
A quick Google search yields:
Who knew? “Why have just one?” That’s pretty funny.
At home, I found the sweetest e-mail in my inbox from Robert. Smooch!
