I checked in with Jeff Perry, and made sure he had directions to the office. He left Wilmington between 8:30 and 9, and arrived at the office right at 11:00. I had some meetings this morning, and left stickies on the window in the lobby (by the outside badge reader), and two by the telephones in the lobby telling him to call Andrew (the office next to mine) if my phone was busy when he arrived.
He pretty much just got set up with his laptop connection, and it was time for lunch. We met Jon B. over at the B500 cafeteria. The food wasn’t great, but we had a good lunch together. Jay dropped by for a few minutes.
We were going to go see Gregor’s play at 8, but during the day the Lawrence et.al. vs. Texas Supreme Court decision came in declaring anti-sodomy laws illegal. Shortly after that, we received an e-mail that there was an impromptu celebration going on tonight at the Mad Hatter’s in Durham at 7:00. We decided to do that instead of going to the play.
At 5:00, I left the office, stopped by Sam’s to get my pictures, which were not ready, and then ran home to change clothes. I then rode back out to Durham, stopping by work to pick Jeff up on the way.
We went to the Mad Hatter’s. There was a small crowd there, not so many that they didn’t all pretty much fit inside at Mad Hatter’s. At one point, someone stood on a chair or table and gave a little speech about GLBT issues and progress. There was an Asian family (mom, dad, and two kids) sitting right in the middle of it all. It was fun watching the mom and dad making faces back and forth and chatting in their own language. Boy, were they caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. 🙂
I saw Ian there, and of course Glenn came through, and I saw Troy from Games Night, who hasn’t been in ages. A little bit later, we saw Jay Cagle on the other side of the room having coffee with Chuck. We went over to their table for a few minutes, then Jay had to leave as he was meeting Howard and David for ADF.
Jeff and I rode over to the Duke Campus, where I drove up Chapel Road to show him that area. After that, we ate at Elmo’s Diner on Ninth Street.
We got home between 9:30 and 10:00. We read downstairs while the sheets dried, then made up the bed, and called it a night. A read a little of The Persian Boy.
