Happy coming out day, exercising (body and stock options), editing, a haircut, and laundry…

Today is my 14-year anniversary of living my life as whom I really am. As I’ve said to myself so many times since then, “Thank &deity I didn’t live my entire life here as somebody I wasn’t.”

Kevin (av8rdude) and I worked out this morning. It was an all-cardio day for me, and I listened to music while I did it.

We stopped at Bruegger’s afterwards, where I returned to my old standby: pumpernickel and lite, plain cream cheese. Just delicious.

I did it. I exercised my IBM options today. I know that not one person will feel sorry for me, but look how much in taxes those bitches withheld:

However, one of the reasons I’m selling this year is because I’m working only three days a week, which puts me in a lower tax bracket. Hopefully, some of that outrageous amount will be refunded to me once I file my 2008 taxes.

I love the word “miscreants,” and you already know I love Prudie, so the combination of the two is bonus.

Dear Prudence,

I am about to marry a wonderful man who happens to be a police officer in the town where we live. Several times now, I have found myself in an uncomfortable situation.

I recently met a neighbor who, in the middle of a pleasant conversation, said to me, “Your fiancé arrested my daughter for drunk driving.” Likewise, acquaintances who ask my fiancé’s name have proceeded to tell me my fiancé has arrested them. These people don’t seem particularly angry or feel they have been wronged, but it creates a very awkward situation.

I can’t fathom why someone would bring up their arrest, and I never know what to say. Any suggestions?

Dear Not,

That’s quite a town of miscreants you live in. The next time someone mentions how your future husband arrested them or a loved one for their offenses, just smile and say, “He is very good at his job.”

An affirmation from my friend Myra:

Hi John,

Thank you for coming to class on Tuesday.  Many people came up after you left and told me how impressed they were with your presentation, and I saw Cory tracking you down as you were leaving.  It was definitely another classic John Martin performance.  You  are, quite simply, amazing.

Here’s a link to the organization Dr. Mutisya mentioned that you and Karina should know about.  I’ve just glanced at it, and don’t know anything about it.

Enjoy your cruise!  We’ll do lunch or something when you return.

I edited from Helios this afternoon, and finished that book! Right on time to start my vacation feeling good!

Kevin (av8rdude) joined me for a good portion of the afternoon, and Joe joined us late in the afternoon.

Joe and I had dinner at 518 West, which was just okay. I had their Wood Grilled Chicken Spinach Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing on it. The best thing about the whole meal was the bread dipped in oil and black pepper. I believe it was even better than the bourbon and Diet Coke. Just a minute. I see those words that I just typed, but I can’t understand what they say. Some nonsense about something being better than bourbon and Diet Coke???

I got a haircut on the way home, and “tightened up” my normal 5(top)-4(top sides)-3(low sides) clippers to 4-3-2 clippers instead.

I did two loads of laundry this evening—one whites, one darks—in anticipation of the weekend away in Charlotte at The Queen City Stomp, returning Sunday only to fly to Tampa on Monday for my Monday-Saturday Western Caribbean cruise.
