Queen City Stomp 2008 – Day 1

I started off my morning meeting Kevin (av8rdude) at the gym at 9:00, where I did just my lower body routine today, as I’m going to get plenty of cardio tonight and all weekend.

We stopped at Bruegger’s for a bagel, and I had the usual, which was delicious, as usual.

I dropped by the liquor store. [Liquor??? You liquor, you brought ‘er.]

It was about 10:20, and unfortunately, they didn’t open until 11:00. I had expected a 10:00 opening. I resisted the urge to throw myself against the glass door and yell, “Why? Why?? Why???” I thought that might send the wrong signal.

I stopped by the grocery store on the way home, where I bought pretzels, chips, some French onion dip, and three cans of chopped clams along with some cream cheese to make some clam dip.

At home, I showered, packed, and was loading the car, just as Michael arrived. We finished my stuff, added his stuff, and were on the road just before noon.

On the way out, we stopped by the [now open] liquor store again, where I bought a “backup bottle” of each of the three ingredients needed to make Blow Jobs (a.k.a. Cowboy Cums, a.k.a. Buttery Nipples): [Hover over pics for ingredients and the recipe.]

We had an uneventful ride to Charlotte, especially with regards to the traffic, which is exactly why we wanted to travel between noon and three—to beat the rush hour traffic in either city on either end.

We checked in to the Four Points Sheraton, which is right next door—that is, within stumbling distance—of the Charlotte Eagle, which hosts the Queen City Stomp each year. Since I’m a “gold” Starwood member, our room was on the “Preferred Guests floor,” which other than maybe being a little quieter, got us an opportunity to push “3” on the elevator going up to our room instead of some other number.

It’s become a tradition now, after three or four years, that we get a “King Suite,” and open our room as “Party Central.” So, the first thing we did after checking in was get out my Bose SoundDock, insert my iPod and put on some country tunes,

and then, most importantly, set up the bar. Michael came up from his room and helped us out. After making the clam dip, and having everything set out, we had our toast to start off the annual hoedown weekend.

The Welcome Cocktail Hour was from 6:00-9:00, and this year they had “cut down” to only beer and some raspberry-orange-vodka punch. In the past they’ve had a bar set up with a bartender. Oh well. I drank a bottled water, grabbed one of their red plastic cups, ran up to my room and poured myself a good stiff “big boy drink” [1/2 Canadian Club & 1/2 Diet Coke] and took it back down to the soirée.

We grabbed a quick bite to eat at the KFC right next to our hotel—I had a side order of their coleslaw and tried a “Snacker” (Snacker??? You snacker, you brought her!) Okay, enough of that.

Carl and Bill arrived at our room at about 8:20, and after a Blow Job each (the drinks, you perv), we walked over to the Eagle for the 8PM-2AM Welcome Dance.

It was a large time, as it always is—lots of cowboys from all over NC-SC-TN, and I danced the night away.

Robert and I snuck out at a little bit before 1:00, and stopped next door at a new 24-hour place, Skyland Family Restaurant, and grabbed a bite. I had an omelet and Robert had a hamburger. It was all good.

We passed on the After Hours Party, and went directly to bed. I was absolutely beat.
