Robert arrived at about 10:30, and we met Vivian and Jeff at Finch’s at about 11:20. It was jammed in there, plus they were short on staff. Not a good combination.
We set our expectations up front, putting on our patience hats, although mine was a little tight from the git-go. When the food did finally arrive, it met everyone’s approval, and it wasn’t around very long. |
I met Kevin at the gym at 2:00, where it was an all-cardio day for me.

I did two loads of laundry—one colors, one whites. Lots of workout clothes in there.
I have a couple of affirmations to capture.
- Per a recent discussion about the opera and my irreverence in attending them by “making it fun” to go, which I do by creating mindmaps of them before I go, I sent a link to this particular blog entry of mine, which is about “one night at the opera” and has pointers to three mindmaps I’ve made, one for The Barber of Seville, one for The Merry Widow, and one for Tosca (my favorite, with the number of characters who die in the end, the lot of which I’ve labeled as the “carnage” area in the mindmap).
In response to that e-mail, I received this from Lindsay, one of the recipients:
I have never met a person so consumed with documentation. Nor anyone so picky with grammar but still veryvery fun. (Is the grammar thing so you feel a little superior? which makes it all the more fun?) You’re a strange agent, John Martin! I’ll be consulting you when it’s my turn to throw the ENG 515/675/cool people reunion party. I intend on nagging people well in advance to come, so the thing cannot disappoint, in which case I’ll need your help.
toodles fer now,
Lindsay - In response to my recent write-up about how the co-working experience occurred for me, I got this response from @kitch:
Thanks for the writeup! I am so envious of your ability to crank out writing\documents.
I read a short story written on the back of my eyelids, which took me about an hour-and-a-half, and after which I had to put my clothes on “Fluff” for 10 minutes as the dryer had stopped while I was sleeping reading.
I was waffling about going out tonight, but at 9:15-ish Kevin (av8rdude) called me to see if I was going out. He and Kurt were going to Legends for the show to celebrate the birthday of one of Kurt’s friends, and they said if I was going to be at Flex for karaoke, they’d stop by there first. Twist my arm.
The sound system volume was way too high there, though evidently the karaoke singers didn’t recognize that, as they continued to swallow the microphone only to exacerbate the problem. So, after about an hour, we decided to leave before our ears started bleeding, and walked over to Legends.
There, I met one of Kurt’s (straight, lady) friends, named Sarah, who was a real hoot. Unfortunately, she turned out to be a drunk, and a cokehead, too, but she was hysterical for the first hour or so.
The show was pretty excellent tonight, evidenced by the six one-dollar bills I gave in tips. I rarely, if ever, tip the drag queens.
