I was up at 9:00 this morning, and downstairs to brewing coffee by 9:09. Kevin (av8rdude) came down shortly after that and we each had a bagel from the six I bought yesterday while we were at Bruegger’s.
He had crunchy peanut butter on his. I had butter on half of mine, and lite plain cream cheese and grape jelly on the other half. I had a dentist appointment this morning for a little filling, and another chance to brag about my dentist—Susan Gover, whom I love. She was really on her game this morning. In honor of the Olympics currently going on in Beijing, and where I’ll be in October, I’ll rate her that way. |
PATIENT RAPPORT |
NUMBING |
DRILLING |
Color commentary: Susan continually asks throughout the procedure, “You doing okay?” She also lets you know what she’s doing as she goes along, “You’re going to feel a little pinch now,” “One more little pinch over in this area now; there are two nerves leading to this tooth, and we want to be sure and get both of them,” “This part might feel a little bumpy as I grind out that little bit of old filling,” “Put your hand up if you feel anything at all,” “Gravity is working against us here, so we might drop a little something on your tongue, but we’ll get it right up.”
She did an absolute bang-up job with the numbing. When she returned after the seven-minute wait to let the Novocaine do its thing, she asked, “You feeling anything up there yet?” Seeing how my cheek now felt the size of a moo-moo, I replied, “Yeah, it’s like a size 12 lady has tried to squeeze into a size 6 dress up in there.”
I felt absolutely nothing the entire way through this procedure today. Just as it should be. Before leaving there, I paid an outstanding balance I had after my last insurance claim settled, and I nabbed another rebate form for a Sonicare toothbrush.
I didn’t want to eat for a couple of hours, until my mouth was completely back to normal, so I took advantage of the time to go to the grocery store. At checkout, I apologized to the cashier for only being able to manage “half a smile.”
While Kevin went for his annual FAA physical (to allow him to keep his pilot license), I chopped, diced, and sliced various and sundry vegetables, and when he returned we had a salad consisting of: Romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced hard-boiled egg, sliced cucumbers, diced onions, diced celery, chopped mushrooms, pineapple tidbits, and raisins—all topped lightly with some fat-free croutons. Pretty damned delicious.
We worked out from about 3:15 to 4:15. I did lower body today, and crunches. I also struggled to get through the god-awful music that was playing in the place, and too loudly at that. I don’t wear my iPod when I do my strength training, and I skipped cardio today, as it’s a dance night. Today’s stats:

Dancing was somewhat of a drag tonight. We had about eight dancers there by about 9:30, and after our 30-minute dancing hiatus so that the bar patrons could watch Sordid Lives, we had four left: Carl, Bill, me, and Ernie. Not a good trend.
