I had another good day at work today—working at a good clip, but not crazy, and getting a good amount of work accomplished.
Late morning, I checked my e-mail notification to confirm that my photo cards should indeed be at that K-Mart by now, so I called there. As soon as I said my name, and that I was expecting a package from kodakgallery.com, the guy said, “Yeah, it’s here.” He said it so quickly that there was no way he had time to even check.
The sausage biscuits were a big hit. I put out 12 at a time, and each time they were gone in just a few minutes. A couple people wanted to know what kind of sausage it was.
I put my dip out at lunchtime, and it was popular, too, with just a little bit left at the end of the day.
I ran to K-Mart to get my photo cards, and déjà vu set in. Another clerk, this time a two-speed gentleman, looked through the tray that included the Ms. Nothing. Started going through each of the other trays “in case it got mixed up.”
He was moving so slow, and I was getting impatient (alert the media!), and I said to him, “Is there another place my order could be. This is the exact same thing that happened to me here last night. The lady went through all of those boxes you’re starting to go through and my order wasn’t there.”
I went on to say, “I called here this morning, and the man that answered the phone said, ‘Yeah, they’re here,’ so fast that I know he didn’t have time to look. It’s like he already knew they were here. They’re supposed to have been delivered here on Monday.”
He replied, “Well, to tell you the truth, if he answered that fast, he probably didn’t even bother to really look.”
Hoping that wasn’t going to be the final period on what he had to say, I just gave him that “and-that-would-mean-what-to-me?” look, and he said, “I can call a manager back here if you’d like.”
“Yes, I’d appreciate that,” I replied.
He got on the loudspeaker and paged a manager, and while he waited he came back over and did a sweep all up under the counter (instead of just in those photo bins), and he pulled out two 4×8 boxes, just the size of my photo cards, that said, “PAID IN FULL ON THE INTERNET.”
Praise the deity!
I met Robert at Manbites Dog Theater, where we saw Act a Lady. OMG, we laughed and laughed and laughed.

Act a Lady
by Jordan Harrison
Directed by Katja Hill
December 4-20, 2008
Charles Ludlam meets Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Waiting for Guffman in this uproarious comedy. The manly men of a Prohibition-era town decide to put on a play dressed in “fancy-type, women-type clothes”. Gender lines blur, eyebrows raise, identities explode, and the Elks Club will never be the same. A thoughtful and exuberant Midwestern fable about the man in every woman, the woman in every man, and the power of theater to uncover both. Accompanied by accordion.
Featuring: Ryan Brock, J Evarts, Karen Burns, Derrick Ivey, Julie Oliver, Lance Waycaster
