A sticky credit card, a double workout, a disappunting ride to Durham, & a better Saturday night out

~Saturday~ I got up at around 10:30 this morning, and enjoyed a leisurely Saturday morning.

I forgot to mention in yesterday’s entry about my stop by the grocery store to retrieve my credit card on the way downtown to Natty Greene’s. When I talked to them on the phone, they told me to just go to the customer service desk and tell them that my card was in the safe.

Being the rule follower that I am, I did just that, and the manager on duty retrieved my card without a problem, which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate was the gooiest scotch tape ever that they used to tape a Post-it note to my card indicating the date that they had found it. And worse yet, the tape was over the edge near the magnetic strip on the back.

So, when I took the tape off, the goo on the front of the card stuck to the dollar bills in my wallet that the card abuts when it’s in its slot, and the back of the card stuck to the card in the slot behind it in my wallet. Not to mention that I had my doubts about the card successfully sliding through a card reader at next attempt. Really people? Could you have used a paper clip or something?

With all that bitching aside, I was grateful to have my card back, though, and for not having to go through the drama of getting a new one.

I finally got to the gym at 4:30 and instead of doing my usual routine—some ab crunches and then either an upper body workout or a cardio workout, I skipped the abs workout and did an upper body workout followed by a cardio workout. I felt great leaving there.

A quick shower at home, and I was off to Ninth Street in Durham to The Regulator Bookshop for their 7:00 Great Durham Pun Championship, which I’ve been looking forward to ever since my friend Bob made me aware of it last week. Before leaving home, I tried to check their website just to make sure nothing had changed, as I didn’t want to ride all the way to Durham if it had. In retrospect, the website being down should have been a red flag.

I arrived on Ninth Street at 6:50, and not surprisingly, the parking was dismal. By the time I drove around the block and found a spot, and got in, I was pleasantly surprised to find my friend Des there, but was not pleasantly surprised when she said, “It’s full. They’re not letting anyone else down there.” Down there is the basement area of the bookshop where they hold their events, and you could hear from the top of the stairs that the place was just teeming with folks and excitement.

Darn. Darn. Darn. I was so looking forward to checking out this event. I hope there’s a write-up about it in the next couple of days, and I hope that they’ll do it again, and in a bigger venue the next time, as there were a lot of people even after me that came in and got turned away. Oh well. That’s a 60-mile round-trip, albeit for nothing, on my tires toward their next rotation.

Since I didn’t have time before going, I took advantage of the opportunity to cook some Teriyaki burgers, as well as to slice up—in one-ounce portions—a pound of Swiss cheese. I put a couple of slices on my burger, and stored the rest for lunch sandwiches throughout the coming week.

I arrived at Flex at a little after 10:30, where it was Employee Turnabout Night, which means all the people who work at Flex were there (whether they were schedule to work the night or not), and they were in drag.

Glenn arrived after a bit, always a pleasure to see him, and Joe arrived shortly after that. The foursome was also out—Alex, Steven, Walter, and Jorge.

After the show started, and before it was over, I believe, all of us headed over to 313 for a little while, where I was happy to get in free. All in all, a much better Saturday night than last Saturday.
