From a news article: “…officials said Tuesday that they had arrested a 16-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy…” I wonder why this doesn’t say, “a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy” or “a 16-year-old woman and a 14-year-old man,” of which the former rather than the latter sounds better.
