~Tuesday~ I was on the bus a half-hour earlier this morning, so on the 7:45 instead of the 8:15. There was only one other person on when I got on and that was Sci-Fi Fantasy Man.
A couple of stops later, Cell Phone Lady got on, but without being on the phone, and without getting on the phone the entire way to my stop. I looked at her and thought of Grumpy Boy‘s t-shirt from yesterday, “You’re not yourself today. I noticed the improvement immediately.”
At the next stop, Paris and her mother got on, along with two brothers. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve seen that mother with up to four children with her, but the last couple of weeks she’s just had two with her—adorable little Paris with her plethora of purses, and a boy, a little bit older.
Well, today she had a third child with her and before getting on the bus, indicating him, she asked the driver, “I have a 30-day card. Can he get on with that?”
“Yes,” the driver said.
“You sure?” she asked surprised. “He tall.”
“Yes, just swipe the card twice,” the driver replied.
I thought about that for a minute—okay for 15 seconds max—thinking, “That doesn’t make any sense. Why would a family ever buy more than one 30-day card if they could just stand there and swipe it multiple times for multiple family members?”
“Oh, okay,” mama Paris said, as the kids piled in. She swiped her card once. Beep indicating successful swipe. She swiped it again, “Card Not Valid” the female voice of the fare machine said.
The driver said, “Just go on back,” while he pushed some button on the console, presumably some override or free passenger button.
I had every intention of going to a coffee and refreshment gathering by the dean of CHASS that went from 8:30-10:00, which was the reason I caught the bus a half-hour earlier. This is the dean with whom I had the donation thank-you note exchange, and I wanted to take advantage of an opportunity to meet him in person.
However, once I finally processed the location of the event—as opposed to just skimming it having such a preconceived notion that it was in the building across from my office—it registered with me that I couldn’t get to the Poe building, reasonably have time to meet and have a short chat with the dean, and be back to my building in time for my 9:00 meeting. So, I’ll wait for the next one that he has.
My 9:00 meeting was our weekly department meeting to which Jude brought some Pepperidge Farm Fruit & Nut cookies (but we didn’t have any now that I think about it), I brought white-yogurt covered pretzels, and Rhonda brought some unbelievably delicious rum cake.
I spent a good chunk of my afternoon working on policies that we need to devise in managing our decision as to when an OIT website must go into our content management system; can reside outside our content management system, but must have the look and feel of the sites inside it; or can stay the way it is outside the content management system. Fascinating stuff. Not.

With regards to that second tweet, I’m thinking about taking a class in the spring semester, as we get to take up to two classes per year free as a benefit of being a university employee.
I made the most delicious stir fry for dinner tonight: diced chicken, green pepper, fresh cayenne pepper, onions, mushrooms, broccoli and Simply Asia Ginger Teriyaki Stir Fry Mix. Yum. Yum. Yum.
I watched an incredibly intense episode of The Wire tonight: Season 1, Episode 10, The Cost. Officer down.
I started a new book tonight, one that I got free through IBM’s wellness program before I left. It’s called Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink, PhD. I didn’t realize it until I stopped, but I ate a quarter-of-a-family-sized-bag of potato chips while I read.
