Strep, LOL Butter, and baking away…

I have strep throat again. She put me on the z-Pack this time, so that I only have to not drink for 5 days instead of 10. It can’t be a good sign when you plan your medication around your drinking — not to mention your doctor accommodating.

It’s not clear if the strep went away and came back, or if it never went away. I hope it’s the former, because prolonged strep can cause kidney and heart failure.

The best thing about class tonight was running into Will and Amelia in the hall after it. I got some of the details about the bake sale, while Amelia stayed turned away from me with her hand over her nose and mouth. I wonder why.

I stopped by Harris Teeter, and bought the ingredients to make Nestle's Oatmeal Scotchies. The recipe can be found here.

I love buying Land O’ Lakes butter, because it always shows up on the receipt like a chat message:

LOL BUTTER QRTS

which makes me, well, laugh out loud. I wonder if the Land O’ Lakes folks have capitalized on that in some kind of advertising campaign. If not, they should have me working for them.

I spent a couple of hours baking cookies, and bagging them.

My original intent was to make two batches of cookies, with each batch consisting of 48 (4 dozen) cookies, since that’s the yield in the recipe.

After mixing the first batch, which got to be quite an arm workout by the end, I’d already decided that one batch was going to be enough — rationalizing that since I’d gotten the banner made for the bake sale, too, that one batch would be enough of a contribution.

When I finally dropped the last tablespoon of dough onto the cookie sheets, the final count was 42 cookies.

This worked out fine, though, as I’d first thought of putting 4 cookies in each bag, but they’re going to sell them for a buck, and the bag held 3 perfectly, and they’re so damn rich that three’s plenty anyway. That’s my story and it’s sticking to me.

So, all said and done: 14 bags of 3 cookies each. And a banner. Amen.

I tried to get a little ahead on my home work and started reading Wednesday’s article for COM 487.

I’m thinking a lot about Robert and hearts tonight, so I made these fully intact hearts:
