Chillin’, defense affirmations, lovin’ language and my man, pool and show tunes…

In his blog, Bible Versus, Hugh, who is a gay man living with AIDS, is reading and commenting on the Bible, and being overseen by the Real Live Preacher. I really like this quote from Hugh in his blog:

“However, AIDS isn’t necessarily now seen as terminal. Not as terminal as, say, Life.”

So sweet! (And the lady, too.)

I had the most laid-back day I’ve had in a long, long time—still reveling in last night’s event, I guess.

I started going through my paper piles, mostly because I’m looking for some printouts about the STC Conference and accommodations so I can complete my reservations.

It needs to be done anyway, as my sister is spending the night tomorrow, and I need to make the place look a little more presentable than it is right now.

I had a ton of affirmations arrive last night and today as a result of my e-mail captured in yesterday’s blog entry.

Since my blog is called dailyafirmation, I want to capture some here. I’m going to put them behind a cut so that those of you who don’t care to participate in the “John Martin love-fest” can be spared.

Congratulations!

Your rehearsing paid off well. Your presentation was quite impressive, to say the least.

I am very proud of your accomplishment. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.

Many kudos and congratulations are due… PARTY!

Robert

Bueno mon ami!  Buenoficio!   (I’m not sure if there are really words, but they sound glowing and in the spirit of congratulations!!)   You were already fantastic and accomplished without the degree, please remember this as you move forward.

My diploma sat unframed and I used it as a coaster; that glossy, thick laminated cover just wiped clean so easily.  My mom stole it recently to frame it.  Maternal obsessions.  Almost obnoxious.

What’s next for Mr. Martin? Adventures? Travels?  A life?

Bless you dear! Congrats! I think of you often and now I will think of you with your degree!

Amelia

And I think… nay,I KNOW… that you will go out and celebrate AGAIN when I am able to join you in celebrating. Congratulations! Some of us (that would be me) are NOT surprised that you did so well.

Hugs-n-Stuff(tm),
Kevin

John–

Many thanks!

This document should give me plenty of great ideas for the MS (and department) site, and plenty of ammunition to use when I talk to various “powers that be” on campus.

Congratulations on a job well done!

Cheers,
David Covington

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  Sounds like you blew them away.  I knew you would pass unconditionally.  Now go have fun in NYC.

By the way – I really like it that you acknowledged Robert in your presentation.

I want to hear all about it when I see you, so don’t forget the details until after that.

Myra

Congratulations John! What an amazing accomplishment! This Fall will definitely be more enjoyable with that class behind you.

You best-be countin me in for the graduation celebration in December!! :>)

I hope you do some early celebrating this weekend! Not sure if Mom told you, but we’re having a candle party at her house next Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Food, wine, and candles… if you wanna come?!?!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop with your studies! I’m very proud of you Mr. Martin!!!

Tara

Congratulations!  You deserve every kudos you get because you put your all into everything you do!  I’m proud to be your friend.

Sincerely, Suzanne

Hooray!  I am so happy for you!  I hope you went out last night and partied like it was 1999.  I knew you’d ace it.  I am so proud…

Congratulations a million times over!

;-),
Erin

Congratulations, John! I am so sorry that I did not make your presentation. Having emailed Jason earlier in the week to check on times, I was all dressed up and ready to go. Well, I actually did go – here’s what happened.

Having spent all day at home recovering from, of all things, a colonoscopy the day before, and doing homework in the horribly tedious course I am now taking, I drove all the way to Raleigh around 4:00PM to get out of the worst traffic and get my cap, gown, and hood before the bookstore closed. I then went to Moe’s for a vegetarian burrito. I think there’s where I went wrong. Having fasted for a few days before the procedure and just getting back to eating, I wasn’t ready for Moe’s massive burrito…that sounded bad didn’t it? I had planned to hang around until 7:30, but couldn’t make it. I sat in my car with the book I brought along and realized I had to go home and go to bed – I felt like crap…

So, again my regrets for not being there and my congratulations; I am sure that you were more than impressive. And now you’re the STC prez as well;  you will be great in that as well.

I’ve been reading your blog, and you can add my email to the growing list of kudos. You’re a great guy, John. I have always enjoyed collaborating, gossiping, twittering, and exchanging notes in class with you. Best of luck in all your endeavors, you’re brimming with that special energy that is so sorely missed today.

Aloha,
Lars

John, this is fantastic news and I thank you so much for sharing it with me! I’ve been with you through your journey; and all along, I’ve admired your dedication to finishing this integral piece of education. You’ve adjusted your work schedule and your life schedule around it to show your determination.

I never doubted for a moment that you’d finish! I believe a ‘mini’ celebration is definitely in order, even though your actual graduation isn’t until December. The biggest hurdle is over, and you did it with flying colors! I am so proud of you!! (sniff)…..I’m getting verklempt…….

Much love,
……….Mary 🙂

BRAVO! Now you must think about a PhD!!!!! I hate that you may have had any doubts—I always KNEW you were the smart one—that’s why I worked so hard to be like YOU!! Congratulations, what a wonderful accomplishment, and no small feat. I am very proud of you—awwww hun!

Vivian

YAY, John Martin!  I’m so happy for you!  Now, go home, put your feet up, and revel in your success and accomplishment!  But not before, of course, tying on one really, really tight!  🙂

Take care,
Courtney

John, you are awesome. I’m very proud of you.

Dear John,

Wow! What an accomplishment and I am so proud of you! You have been so dedicated to your Master’s program and the many details it requires. I am so excited for you and want to congratulate you on a job well done. I think Robert is one lucky man to have such a compassionate and caring partner. Best wishes with your continued studies.

With much love and respect, Your Friend,
Steve

You damn well better celebrate!!! After all… you ARE the one with the best ideas!!! Awesome!!! Good thing you don’t really wear hats… I think your head has gotten larger since your brain has taken on so much knowledge! You should be very proud of yourself. Now go get a damn drink!

Love ya,
Joe

Hi John, I’m so sorry I missed it, I really wanted to be there for you, but my cat took ill and we spent the night at the vet’s with him. I’m so happy to hear it went well.

Cheers,
Michelle

Congratulations, John! This is wonderful news — thank you for sharing it with us. We’ll have to celebrate!

A good day to have behind you, especially when so well-done!

I’m pleased and proud to have such a talented young scholar on the team 🙂

Patti

Woohoo – way to kick ass and take names! Congratulations on passing this big milestone! Based on your LJ posts I know you’ve been working very hard on the presentation, very glad to see it come off as well as you’d hoped 🙂

Casey

Congrats!!! Way to go!

Always, (too)

Is it any wonder that my life is so great—I’m surrounded by loving, caring, and generous-spirited friends and family.

I love language and smart men who can manipulate it. I was having an instant message conversation with Robert, and he was telling me that his mother was trying to send him a picture of his older brother (who is now deceased). It was a picture of him in the 70s in a band that he played with.

He said: “It’s taking up too much bandwith to send the picture he’s in the band with.”

Love it. Love it. Love it.

Then I told him I was going out with my friend Joe to celebrate defending my Master’s project by saying, “Yeah, it’s a bitch; but somebody has to do it,” referring to partying, and he responded:

“Yes, I remember the daze.” Most excellent.

I met Joe at Helios and we had some cawfee—he, a regular, light roast, and me, a single iced skinny caramella.

At Flex, we played a few games of pool with Chris (zinnian) and his date, Morris.

Later the twins arrived, but they were not the only “gay brothers” in the bar—Wes was there with his brother, who’s from Greenville, and gay. Who knew?
