Credit card retrieval, a grammatical mess, feeling good, and an unexpected power outage…

~Sunday~  First on my agenda this morning was to retrieve my credit card that’s now been down at The Dinner for two days. I dropped into Helios, got a cup of coffee, and then slipped across the street to get my card.

They couldn’t find it at first and I was relieved when they eventually did. Someone told me (Was that you, Phil?) that they’d left their card somewhere and after two days the place had cut it up. It made me think of Delta airlines and my library book. Don’t get me started on that again.

I finally remembered to get online and request a replacement Food Lion MVP card. No I didn’t lose it. The little hole split that keeps it on my keyring.

Speaking of Food Lion, my friend Hugh (of birthday fame this weekend), knowing my proclivity for all things grammar, alerted me to this sign:

I loved the response of our (mine and Hugh’s) mutual friend, Chad:

What does this even mean?

FOODLION – is that some sort of acronym?

except – so they will take expired licenses, right?

id – the part of the psyche, residing in the unconscious, that is the source of instinctive impulses that seek satisfaction in accordance with the pleasure principle and are modified by the ego and the superego before they are given overt expression + why do we even abbreviate [identification card as] ID, it should be be an iCard or just IC.

No wonder people are protesting the National Spelling Bee again—their influence is spreading!

I was pretty much one giant slug today. So, when 4:00 rolled around and I noted that of at least four things I absolutely wanted to get done today, none had gotten done, I said to myself, “Self? Of those four things, if you did just one of them right now, which one would make you feel best about yourself?”

“Working out,” was the answer, and a half hour later I was on my way to the gym, where I did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine for a 580-calorie burn, while listening to my “Workout” playlist. And it did feel good when I was finished.

I met Joe at 8:00 at The Borough, where we had dinner and then went to Flex, where we played a couple of games of free pool. Near the end of the evening, we started texting messages back and forth on our BlackBerrys about some of the people in the bar. Bless our hearts.

Since Joe was off tomorrow, and I had to work, I left him there at about 10:30 or 11:00.

At home I was working on my blog and suddenly my power went out. I thought, “What in the hell? There’s not a cloud in the sky, no storm in sight.” It was only out for about ten minutes, and then popped back on. Strange.
